Heat pumps won't run on generator power

What am I doing wrong? We're overnighting in a Cabelas parking lot in Billings, Montana. A little while ago, I fired up the 12KW coach generator, let it run for about three minutes, then enabled the "heat" cycle with temperature set to 67. The inside of the coach was 63 degrees and the outside temperature was 53 degrees.

The heat pumps never came on, but the Oasis heat did as soon as I enabled the diesel burner. The heat pumps worked this morning on shore power just before we got on the road.

What am I missing here?

Have you checked the breakers on the generator?

10 and 12.5K Onan generators only have one breaker on the generator.

I should have thought about the generator breaker. Looks like when I had it serviced a few weeks ago, the tech turned the breaker off and didn't turn it back on. Thanks, folks.

When cold, the HP, can take more than a few seconds before they kick in. Also, depends on your climate configuration settings in your SL. There is an Auto setting, Both, primary and secondary only. As to the difference from shore to gen, there shouldn't be any.

On our T-stat we have three operational modes. Cool • Heat [which is propane fueled furnace] • and Heat Pump

Other then to make sure they work, I have never used my heat pumps, the heated floors are all we need 99% of the time.

I had the same happen to me several weeks ago after servicing @ Motor Homes of Texas in Nacogdoches, Tx. Fortunately when I stared checking things, I noticed the breaker was off on our 10K gen.

Thanks, everyone. We are now good; all is working as it should. I've made a note in my pre-travel checklist to verify after a generator service that the breaker is on.

We are currently enjoying breakfast at a rest area near Buffalo, Wyoming. The generator is purring along, the coffee pot is perking some "mud" and breakfast sandwiches are being heated. We stayed overnight at a Cabelas in Billings, Montana, and decided to hit the road early. We did have some encouragement; the guy in the slot next to us looked incapable of pulling his non-Newmar coach out without clipping the front of our coach. Decided to solve the problem by leaving first and having breakfast down the road.

Thanks again for the help.

Don't know what tripping that breaker would have done for him. The engine can still start.

It kept the generator from powering up stuff the owner may have left switched on inside. I'm sure its happened.
