Similar to that I've heard that same is true for pets laying on the floor. Hot dogs?

Any comments on this from current users?
Don,
You are correct! When we were at Hoots III I discovered that a "pet throw" we had on the floor trapped the tile heat to the point that the tile was too hot to touch!! Newmar does not use "temperature" to control the heat, they use "timed cycles"... at least on our Essex. If you have heated floors be careful what you leave on the floor and oh, as for pets... The cats love it!!

TMan 59- Love the heated floors on our 2014 MADP, I've owned 4 coaches & this is one of the best options I've ever bought! Don't let the price deter you-ORDER IT!

MrUSA14- Check your build sheet my friend- heated floors (electric radiant heat under the tile) IS NOT STANDARD ON ANY MODEL NEWMAR COACH INCLUDING THE KING AIRE! You may have it in your Entegra but is was ordered as an option & cost extra.

So, bottom line. Using a rubber backed throw rug, like most of us probably have at least in the bathroom (we also have a few others here and there) is not good, but not good for what? Will it damage the heating unit? Will it damage the tile? Will it actually damage/melt the rubber backing?

If not rubber backed, how do you keep these smaller rugs in place?

I always wear ankle socks, but it is nice in the bathroom, when stepping off of rug.

Jay,
I'm guessing here but I think, as hot as the tile get, it could potentially burn out the heater in that area or cause a tile to crack. I was shocked at how hot the tile was under the pet throw. Now, we pick up the shower throw rug when the floor heat is on and I turn the bathroom floor heat off before putting it down for a shower. The ambient heat is sufficient for the time in the shower.

srrobe-your coach must be different than ours. The radiant floor heat is adjustable on the Silver Leaf screen from 1-9, not low, Medium & high as you say yours is. I've never had it higher than 4. Have never cracked a floor tile or melted the backing on a throw rug.

Does anyone personally know anybody that has melted the backing on a throw rug & seen it in that condition? I don't - only some rumors as far as I can determine.

We love the heated floor- wouldn't be without it.

Heated floors were the one thing we missed not being able to order in our Ventana.

That said, after a year, we haven't perished with the tile floors and no heat.

Since we are in Florida and travel as the temps change to moderate in other area of the country, I didn't see any need for the heated floors. Only once did I decide to fire up the Oasis to provide warmth when the heat pumps were struggling with an unusually cool night.
It all depends on where you are at and what/where/when you plan to go as to if the heated floor is right for you.

If the outside temperature requires, do you leave the floor heat on all night or just turn it on a short time before crawling out of bed? And if all night which of the 3 settings do you use?

Will the floor tiles overheat with a rug down if the heat is set on Low or Medium instead of High, or does it make any difference what temp its set on?

Different for sure as we don't have Silver Leaf.

We call ours "cooled floors". Wife does not like too much heat so I'm wearing wool slippers to keep my toes warm.

Just as a FYI.....While Newmar uses electric resistance pads under the tiles, Entegra imbeds a "loop" of pipe within the floor joist cavity to provide their floor heat. This loop requires the Aqua Hot to provide heat, which potentially takes away fom the hot water supply. I believe all Entegras come with this floor heat standard.

On the DS like stated we only have the 3 settings, down south it has never been above low. But just looked at bath mat, it does have rubber backing but no problem with sticking.
