Heated Fridge Water Supply
I believe the fridge water supply line is heated. Can anyone verify this and tell me how it turns on and off. On all the time? This is a Whirlpool fridge.

I don't thing mine is. I have a shut off valve in the cargo bay that goes up the fws for the fridge and it is regular clear water line.

On my rig, it is heated from the ice maker solenoid to the ice maker inlet. I have no idea how to turn it off, but now that you mention it, I doubt it's heated full time. The ice maker tray is heated as part of the ice ejection process, I wonder if that's when the inlet line gets heated as well, since refill follows ejection.

Maybe confusion on washing machine, the washing machines only have a cold water line and have built in heaters. I don’t believe the fridge water line is heated.

RV 'Absorption' fridges....the big Norcold/Dometic Models with water/ice have heated water lines
Never heard of a heated water line for a 'Residential' fridge unless RV Mfg has added that modification
One would only need to visually inspect fridge water supply line and see if it is heated....typically covered in blue heat tape
Doubt it is

Not my Splendide. I have hot and cold water supply lines, just like my home unit.

The refrigerator water line on my '13 DS does have a resistance heating wire on it as it passes thru the bays. I don't know how it is activated... I'd go check it, but the coach is in the dealer shop right now. I imagine it has a thermister on it.

The water line feeding feeding looks to abour 5/8 nylon tubing. There is a shut off valve. This is in the driver’s side bay beneath the fridge. After the shut off valve there is about 6 more inches of the same tubing the a plastic hand tighten fitting. This connects to brass fitting with braided SS hose. You can see in the picture that the SS hose is joined by wiring and the both are Incased in a odd conduit then exits the bay exterior wall. When the combination wiring and hose exits the wall under the FWS it is wrapped in insulation and is part of a articulating arm that flexes with the in/out motion of the FWS.

Over many years in construction, I have met many plumbers hook up hot water to fridges. Some nonsense about water freezing faster as I remember.

Mine is the same as Twincamsam. There is a temperature sensor in the battery bay that turns the heating element on at 44°. Sensor is a black module about 3X3 inches w/ 4 wires plus red and green LEDs. One LED is on all the time and the other is on when heating element is powered (sorry, do not recall which LED glows when). It is mounted high on the right side of the battery bay.

Thanks a bunch BigBus. I will check that first thing in the morning. Amazing that Newmar did something so smart and practical.

BigBus-so this may mean we have a similar setup-do you winterize your coach? If so how do you deal with the fridge?
Thanks

Why would they need a heating element for residential fridge if your using the coach the fridge is in a box with no outside vent anymore and the heat generated by the cooling of fridge is pump behind the fridge keeping the water line from freezing and water line was run through kitchen cabinets which were warmed by the heating system of coach.
The wet bay has a radiator. with heat sensor. from heating system to warm tank areas.
