Heater not working

We need a little advice. 2019 NewAire. Set heaters on 50° and up until today they have cycled normally. MH is plugged in at our covered shed. Temps are going to mid teens here in SE Tx so we turned heat up hoping it came on. Nope. We also started up MH and still no heat. We sure don't want water pipes freezing. Any ideas?

I assume you have an Oasis system? If so, is the boiler firing? Please provide more specifics.

If by "heaters" you mean the heat pumps in the ACs on the roof, those aren't going to work in cold temps. You will need to run your Oasis system.

Little bit more info would help as to what your heat source is.

But here’s what I learned and what someone else has eluded to. The heat pump on your ac will quit putting out heat at around 40 degrees.

If you have an Oasis, turn your thermostat to furnace, turn either your electric element on or your boiler, set your temp and turn your fan to automatic.

If you have a propane furnace, someone will chime in.

I’m just up the road from you. As I’m inputting this, light snow is starting to fall. Stay warm.

True Texan,
Probably the oasis burner has malfunctioned.
This method will work: Turn on your two A/C elements for your furnace system. Then go to your thermostat and set it to furnace mode for both zones. Then set your temperature to 50 degrees with fan in auto mode. This should keep everything inside at 50 degrees providing you are hooked up to 50 amp service.

We are plugged ii to 50AMP but it appears we are only pulling 30 AMPs. We changed fuses on HVAC but honestly don't know if spare fuse is good. We checked breaker on power pole and switch is good.
We gave up after dark. It has been snowing all night but as daylight comes I will turn on Oasis and see if it comes on. We know roof mounted A/Cs don't come on in extreme cold but didn't remember alternate source needed Oasis.
Thank you each one for responding. I'll update when we are able to check out your suggestions.

Back in the coach. Turned on both AC #1&2. They are yellow, not green, no matter how many times I touch screen, which seems not right. Screen says 'No AC input'. I don't know what that's telling me. Heat set to 50°, on auto for all 3 zones

Not sure what is going on. Check your 50 amp plug and make sure you have power at the plug in, and if not make sure the breaker feeding this plug in is not tripped. Hope you find the problem before tonight. Forecast 10 to 15 degrees.

For now, turn off all 3 ac units at the thermostat. Work only with the front unit. On mode, switch to furnace.

If it doesn’t work on electric, have you tried the boiler?

You may want to try resetting the Oasis by pressing the power button on the unit to turn it off, and then press again to turn on.

Just an FYI, my unit is plugged into 30a in my shop, and Oasis works fine.

This is from another forum, but the issues are similar. Here is the link.

Thank you all. I gave up on AC & turned the Oasis burner. Viola! After about 2 minutes blower came on, within another minute or two, the heat was warm.
I didn't realize the a/c units on top have heat strips, tho I am aware those only work above 40° or so.
I knew you guys would know what to do. I just love irv2 folks!

Electric resistance heat strips work in any weather.

Heat pumps have a minimum exterior temperature they can work at. Also, they become less efficient as exterior temperature drops. See owner's manual.

The ones I know of do not have heat strips. They are Heat Pumps which have a reversing valve and they need around 45 degrees to operate without going constantly into defrost cycles. Yes they operate lower but spend a lot of time defrosting which becomes pointless.

The AC1 and AC2 are purely electric elements. So, if you have shore power or generator running…and the main breaker panel does not have any tripped breakers. They will work with one caveat. Your coaches electrical management system can load shed to manage electrical loads to prevent tripping breakers. In our coach..,the panel can manage six different loads..,turning the, off as needed to keep you from overloading the source you have (or select). If you show 30A available it is trying not to exceed that. In ours it sheds the block heater, then the two AC oasis heating elements (usually water htr labeled in the distribution panel) then up to three rooftop A/C units. Check the status of the electrical mgmt panel if for some reason AC1 and AC aren’t working.

If the temps are dropping into the low 20’s…I do not think the AC elements alone are sufficient to provide enough heat energy to maintain your coaches temperature. The burner provide way more heat energy. We have had success using one AC element for domestic hot water when ground source coming in is like we have in Florida 72 degrees. If your water source is colder like it is now in KY…it would take at least the two AC htr elements to heat water…and then only limited flow. When it truly gets cold and you have switched to Oasis for heating…we always use the Oasis Burner. You can run both electric and burner together. They will cycle together. If you find the Burner it cycling at a really high rate…you might augment heating with ceramic heaters inside if you have a 50A source. If you have a 30A shore connection…ceramic heaters are probably going to cause a situation where the load mgmt system may shed an AC 1 or AC2 htr…so you won’t gain anything.

Oasis is what keeps the underbelly warm. So you want it to cycle inside the coach so that it is supplying heat in the basement to prevent holding tanks and water system freezing. If unable to manage underbelly compartment temperatures…you’ll need to winterize the system to prevent freezing water from damaging pipes…and heat exchanger..etc.

C.Martin,
A great clear explanation. A motorhome is a complicated machine. A lot of us that have studied and learned the operations of our coach still run into issues that we need advice from others to work through the issues.

If your energy management system is reporting 30 amp service, it means somewhere between the shore power outlet and the EMS you have lost 1 of the 2 "lines" of power. 50 amp service is identical to the electric range outlet in a residence - 2 lines, 120VAC relative to neutral, plus and equipment grounding conductor. 30 amp RV service is only 1 line, neutral, and ground. If you have heat strips (resistive elements) in your rooftop units it's possible that they are powered from the "line" you are missing.
