We had the same problem with our bathroom sink. It happened the day before we were scheduled for another repair. The tech said it was no problem, happens all the time. He sprayed it with a silicon spray, waited 5 minutes and pushed it down. It popped right up.

If you go the silicone route, 3M 08897 (amazon) is not powered by petroleum, but compressed air. Silicone is also recommended for the Equalizer Jacks shiny parts, spray on, wipe off excess. No schedule given as I remember, so once a quarter.

Unstopped!

Since twisting or unscrewing didn’t get anywhere (even matching stopper on other sink doesn’t want to turn) I removed the P trap and pushed upwards on the stopper with a screwdriver (Thanks DS Don) and got it to pop up. Back to normal, even without lubing it. Will lube all three sinks as soon as I decide what to use! Thanks all for the ideas!

Sprayed all the stoppers with 6-66 marine lube spray, and they are working fine. The only strange thing is that the reason I dislike plumbing projects is that my first go at any project seems to always leak, requiring me to tighten or redo something. This simple project didn’t leak at all. Amazing.
