EydieG,
I went through something (I think) is similar to what you're going through. I have an 05 DSDP and it had the older KVH stationary dome. I couldn't get mine to work either, I changed boxes and hooked up everyway I could think of, I even tried the box at home to make sure it was working. Calls to DirectTV didn't help, they had no idea. Then I took the RV to a local company and they figured out what was wrong in a few minutes. First the older dishes require a signal from the receiver. Now if your receiver is set up for home use (as mine was) it's probably set to SWM. You'd have to go into the set-up screen and change it for the receiver to send a signal to the dish. Then on the older dishes (as was stated earlier) don't automatically track the correct satellite. I had to press the search button on the dish until I got to the correct satellite, then it worked great. So bottom line make sure your receiver is set correctly or it will never work, then make sure you've focused on the correct sattelite. Hope this helps.

After I spent so much time trying to figure out my KVH satellite, I just callled their technical support that help me to update software and fix issues,
It cost me $100 for 3 months support but this is the way to go.
There are not many local people that are really competent to fix it.
Sad point, after that everything was fine with it, I had to shift to ShawDirect, the only company that supply canadian TV south ....

While I agree with your theories in essence. I do have a use for a sattelite dish. I camp in Arkansas state parks quite often. Most of the time I am not close enough for over the air stations. I have had several camping trips where the weather has gotten bad and there were tornado watches all over the state. With the sattelite dish and local channels ( I switched to dish to get local channels on my Winegard) I can have some warning if the weather is likely to get severe enough to consider looking for shelter. Also I cannot imagine missing the big bang theory

Everything we used either started out or eventually became a big frustration.

Now, with our new coach we have eliminated the problem by not having any satellite. We take more walks and have more campfires, we read more books, we bring DVDs, and in a pinch we watch whatever is coming in over the air. Unless we were full-timing, I don't think we would bother with it again.

Not to say that will work for everyone, just MHO.
