I have been seeing posts on other forums where Honda changed the transmission in the very popular toad the Honda CRV in model year 2015. This new transmission will not let it be towed four wheels down. So if someone wants a CRV they may want to look at the 2014's.

I can't imagine how Honda could be that stupid. They HAVE to be aware that MH towing is a primary reason for much of their CRV sales. I certainly hope this info you are seeing is proven to be incorrect.

I've seen and heard both: It isn't towable and also that it is.

It's not towable; someone on another forum posted an excerpt from the owners manual. The Accord hasn't been towable since the CVT was introduced to it a few years ago.

When one poster quoted the page number of the 2015 manual that specifically said the vehicle could not be towed by a motorhome in addition to reading posts of others saying the same thing I figured it must be true. I too think this is a poor move by Honda since you do see so many being towed behind motorhomes.

Boy, would I like to get to the bottom of this. I test drove the '15 CR-V Touring and loved it. The salesman told me that he checked his sources and was told that all Hondas with CVT cannot be towed four down but that "further research is being done by Honda" currently. What does this really mean? I am hoping that someone can find out the true answer directly from Honda and report it back to this thread.

The '15 CR-V is a real winner and if it could be towed four down, I would have one in a New York minute.

The number of CR-V's sold each year is >300,000. The total number of Class A and Class C MH's delivered to dealers is <3,000/mo according to RVIA. Therefore, the total number of new MH's sold is ~12% of total CR-V sales. Not everyone who buys a MH needs a new toad and not every new toad is a CR-V.

If 50% of new MH owners need to buy a new toad rather than using a car they already have and even half of those decide to buy CR-V's (a gross exaggeration), that would amount to 9,000 vehicles in a year. That's 3% of all CR-V sales. I doubt that towing behind a MH is even on Honda's radar.

Here is a quote that was posted yesterday from the FMCA National office regarding the Honda CRV's towability.

"In compiling information for the annual towables guide that will appear in the January 2015 issue, FMC magazine has learned that the 2015 Honda CR-V is not towable four wheels down behind a motorhome. Here is an explanation from Chris Martin in Honda’s Western Region public relations office:"

"With the addition of CVT transmissions to both the Fit and the CR-V, our automatic transmission dinghy towing options disappeared. At this point, among all Honda vehicles, only the 2015 Fit with manual transmission has been tested for dinghy towing. There is no manual transmission option for the CR-V. I wish I had better news for your readers."

Crap, the 2014's just became more valuable. My 2011 only has 17K miles on it so it's good for quite a while.

OH NO!!!!! Now my 2011 CR-V HAS to stay healthy FOREVER!!!! I already park in the "hiking" section of any parking lots and I drive it like all the other drivers have ebola and are a direct threat to my car!!! I LOVE my Honda and as a TOAD it is fantastic! I, too, cannot believe HONDA can be that stupid!!! I am going out to the garage right now and make sure my CR-V is comfortable!!!

There is a whole bunch of flap about the TPMS. I have so few miles that I don't know what is true. But, with that said, the light has come on twice in a total of 1100 miles. It seems both time the tire pressure was off. I can see that with this type of system (revolutions per tire mile comparison) trouble can be had in short order. Keeping the tire pressure correct and resetting the system after the check I feel is what we need to do.

Tomorrow will be the first time we tow the car. I hope I don't forget to do something important. That could be costly

. I think I need to build a check list now.

For those of us with pre 2015 CR-V's, drive careful and care well for you special and, now coveted, CR-V.
