Houston to Moab

In march of 2016 I'm doing a Jeep trip to MOAB and will be staying at Portal RV park. I'm looking for interesting stop overs both there and back. I would like to make Albuquerque on my way up. Might venture farther from the route on the return trip.

Ant suggestions and or recommendations would be appreciated.

I just did Moab last month, but coming from the west so I can't make any recommendations via the Houston route. That being said, there is so much to do and see around the Moab area. We were there for a week and we stayed at Portal (resort side). What a great RV park, especially if you're on the resort side. Level sites with large cement pads for not only your coach, but several vehicles. Some have more build-outs than others since they are privately owned sites.

As for the things that we enjoyed, they are as follows (in no particular order):
  • Dead Horse Point State Park (view from above - Colorado River and canyon)
  • Potash Road (view from below - 4x4 recommended)
  • La Sal Mountain Loop (into the mountains - snow and fall colors)
  • Castle Valley (you'll visit it doing the La Sal Mountain Loop)
  • Canyonlands
  • Arches

There are also many 4x4 trails, but I'm saving that stuff after my lift kit.

How much time have you got?
Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Hill Country, Amarillo, Palo Duro SP, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Chama, Million $ Highway, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde

Going back to WA last year, took me 5 days to get out of TX.

Thanks to all. We will likely rolling hard to get there. Might find something interesting on the way back.

On the Jeep side we plan on wheeling hard for 4 days with a group from Texas. Considering taking a trailer for the Jeep just in case...
