How bad is this tire

I ran over a curb and damage my front tire. I am wondering how badly damaged it is, the gouge goes about 1/3 away around. I want to replace it with another Michelin but I am have difficulty time finding one. The tire is a Michelin XZA 365/70R22.5

Much more reliable than our trying to determine damage from a photo.

Probably not as bad as you think. If its not into the "carcass" of the tire . But like wolfe10 says...Have a Michelin tire dealer who handles OTR truck tires take a look at it.

As above, best to have a dealer look at it. If they think it's good you might still want to ask if it might be best to rotate it to the rear. You never want to loose a front tire.

The rear tires are a different size. That was my first thought as well.

I’d sure have someone look at it - sooner rather than later. And if there is any doubt I’d replace it. Actually, unless they are almost new I’d probably replace both front tires. But that’s just me...I don’t take chances when it comes to tires.

After speaking with Michelin they said it would have to be removed and inspected. Which is what I expected them to say. I called 3 shops within 50 miles and they are looking for the tire. I'm planning on replacing the tire. If I'm going to get the tire off I might as well replace it for a piece of mind. I just would like another Michelin over another brand.

I had a similar issue, though mine were related to sever alignment issues. the tag tire was destroyed in less than 3k, just in 2 weeks of ownership. the drive was out of alignment, the front. all tires were replaced except the front, as fccc declined. I was lucky to catch that one as I was walking around. happened to be at newmar and had them replaced. I kept the good one in a dry dark storage just in case,

if the tire is damaged, it is compromised and likely fail a lot sooner than you expect. That tire is carrying a considerable load. is the DS front 20k? it is not worth the potential damage to the body, let alone accident or even damage to the rim. That cost could become considerable.

I think you are seeing the same thing I am. That tire is junk and should be replaced yesterday!
It wouldn't hurt to have the front end alignment checked right away either.
Don't get so hung up on a Michelin tire you delay replacing this one. If you need to buy a different brand you can always change to a Michelin when you find one and save the take off for a spare.
