Is the trim just attached with double sided tape? How hard is it to replace a single panel? I was thinking of using dental floss (or equivalent) to remove it. Can a single replacement panel be purchased?

Are you talking about stainless trim that runs the length of the storage bay door?? its more than likely adhered with VHB tape and Sika adhesive.. you would need to use heat to soften the adhesive and remove it.

Sumitt Products ships the trim pieces with double sided adhesive tape installed on each section as well as a tube of adhesive caulk.

Yes you can order 1 pc.- just give them the heigth & length as well as the style.

You're asking on the Newmar Forum, so I'll tell you that Newmar adheres them with tape. I bought from Summit SS and Kelly Johnson was very easy to deal with.

If you do order from them, the piece comes with two strips of tape on the back. Pull off a short length of the protective film at one end and place the piece in position. Once its where you want it, hold pressure on the piece and pull the protective film off, pulling it out the side of the trim, working from one end to the other.

Contacted Summit and Kelly confirmed that Newmar does use their product and I can buy just the one panel as needed. She didn’t mention what the best procedure was for removing the damaged panel though but based on how it is adhered to the body, I’ll start with dental floss then fishing line if needed.

Spray it heavily with WD40 and use the dental floss or fishing line.

When I spoke to Summit about how to remove a panel for replacement, they told me to use a heat gun to warm the surface to break down the adhesive..

I installed Summit’s basement door stainless and they sent me Sika adhesive. On our 22 DS they appear to have used an adhesive not double sided tape. If this is your case heat will be required. Good luck

I’ve removed trim pieces from other vehicles in the past. As mentioned above, use a heat gun to soften up the adhesive, but take care to not damage the paint. Also, fishing line is your best tool/

I watched my dealer remove a section of trim using fishing line. Cut right through it quickly.
You then have to work the remaining tape foam off.
I would call Summit Products on a individual replacement pc.

Ok, this is no longer an issue for me since I went with another coach. But this is a good reference thread for someone else with a bad SS panel that needs to be replaced. Thanks for all the help on this!

I have two small, damaged pieces of stainless baggage door trim that I want to replace. I have already purchased the replacement pieces from Summit. I have an $800 quote from NIRVC just for the labor to remove the damaged pieces and install the new ones. After reading the posts in this thread, the quote seems to be very high.
