How is your DS titled?

We recently picked up an old 2001 Dutch Star and are in the process of getting her fixed up, cleaned up, and back on the road. When we run the VIN# on the title and through our insurance, it comes back as a 2000 Spartan. Is is normal for the title and registration to be for the chassis and not the motor home?

I believe it's dependent on the state. In 2000 we bought a used Pace Arrow that was a trade in at a local dealer. The title the dealer had was from Indiana and the year on that title was the year of completion of the coach/house . When we titled it in Florida, they used the chassis VIN which was a different year than the completion of the coach.

Mind is titled as a Spartan......

Also when you go to look up certain parts you will also use Spartan as the model. I found this out yesterday when I looked up Koni shocks.....

Jd Im pretty sure most states do it that way, but not absolutely sure.
Were fulltimers in our 2002 Dutch Star, domiciled in Texas. Our registration shows us as a Freightliner.

All depends on the state.

The RV is supposed to be titled as a Newmar and the year Newmar completed the vehicle
It's called a "split year" and RVIA has been working on it for years. Basically the vehicle comes from the chassis manufacturer with it's own vin but then the complete vehicle is, by Federal ruling supposed to be titled by the "Manufacturers Certificate of Origin" which gives the model year and final VIN. RVIA used to have the info available on it's web site and a number to call if yours is registered differently.

I purchased a new 2015 Newmar late in the model year and when the state issued the new title they went by VIN number and registered it as a 2016 Newmar Dutchstar. It's insured as a 2016 since they went by the VIN number also.
When I go to sell it do I advertise it as a 2015 or 2016?

We also have a 2001 DS. It is on a Freightliner chassis. my title indicates Newmar Motor Home.

We are the third owners and it was titled in Texas when we purchased it.
