I avoid the interstate and places that have reservations.

Lots of different opinions on here, interesting read.

I am a planner from H_ll - an old occupational habit. When I put a long trip together, generally within a couple months of the start date - I get reservations. This way I can start my trip and not have to start to wonder where we are staying.

It works for me - I understand not for everyone.

Welcome back on the road.....enjoy!

Wagonmaster II- when we are in transit we usually boondock at a Wal Mart, Lowes or Cabelas parking lot. No need to stay in a campground & a lot faster in & out as well as cheaper!

Yes, you may have to run the generator at times for A/C, but most generators don't get enough run time anyway. My house batteries will last 1 1/2 days or so for normal DC usage.

Happy Trails

Had to call more than one campground a few times but it was just not a big deal. Of course I wasn't staying at destination type resorts, just mostly wanted a place to park - and sometimes needed hookups, sometimes didn't. I was driving a 26 foot motorhome, not towing. Your mileage may vary.
This has been our experience as well. If you are looking for someplace to crash for the night it's not too difficult. If you are looking for a resort or someplace that has "things to do" then you are going to need to book that well in advance.
