With the 605 hp engine it never works very hard, which causes more regens. When running hard the exhaust temperatures are high enough to burn out the DPF which requires less regens. When in regen and on highway I drop to 5 gear to keep the rpms higher.
Exhaust temperatures in regen are 1100 to 1300 degrees.

Side note: DEF simply makes diesel soot sticky causing it to stick to the DPF grids.

Turning off your engine during a regen will not cause any problems. When you restart your engine, if pressure is still there, regen will continue when you reach regen rpms.

It’s a pressure thing, not a timed event. If you do a lot of low rpm, stop and go driving, your computer may force a regen, and you get a light. The light is telling you that your engine has not been operated within the needed range to clean its DPF. Your manual will tell you what your engine wants. Mine has only showed me a light once. The light is not critical but failing to give your engine what it needs could put you in “Limp” mode. Some manufacturers start a countdown of mileage. Some have a MPH limit during the limp mode and after so long go to 5 MPH max.

You always want good regen cycles. This is keeping your DPF clean. If the DPF gets clogged to the point where it cannot be cleaned, it has to be replaced. They are very expensive.

X2 - Just one exception, not stopping engine while engine in regen mode.

I saw it quite often on our 2018 DSDP on a Spartan chassis. When I went to Spartan Academy they said that is not a problem to shut down during regen. It is mostly a warning that the exhaust is hotter than normal. They also recommended that if your are driving on a highway in 6 gear at 1600 RPM drop it down to 5 gear to get it up to 1,800-1,900 RPM to get the exhaust temp up.

I bought the OTR performance reset and forced regen tool. The main reason is it resets a detrate requiring a tow. This device takes the worry of being stranded from a exhaust code away. The forced regen works great on my New Aire. And as a bonus I can force regen.
Now I have the reliability of the pre DEF engines. If a code derates the engine I can reset it and go for service and not have to be towed in because of the EPA rules.

What does the light look like when it comes on? I never had it come on to my knowledge on my 2015 Dutch Star in 45000 miles.

That simply means you are doing all the right things when driving. It’s doing regens without you ever knowing it.
