How old is too old for a Newmar Coach?

To give a little background.....The wife and I have a great situation where we can enter the RV life (which we long for) much sooner than, maybe, most people. She is 48 and I am 51 years old. My paying job requires me to travel 3 weeks a month across the country for typically a 3 night stay. I am reimbursed for my expenses (right now it is normally a $600 -$800 for a flight and roughly $250 a day for hotel, food and rental car that consumes 3 nights a week on average). So a weekly trip cost my company ~ $1500. I think I will be able to negotiate roughly a 50/50 deal that would pay me $750 through expenses, non taxable "wages".

With this background, and my initial question, how old is too old when it comes to a Newmar Coach? What is the year, when you look at RV Trader.com that you list as the oldest you would consider. We are stuck in two worlds, a Ventana DP that would serve us for many, many years, or, a Canyon Star to start with, with the idea of upgrading to a DP 4-5 years later. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Our '02 DSDP, after 13 years of ownership was the most reliable rig I've ever owned. We ordered it and had Newmar remove walls and pocket doors to suit the late DW.

It's just like a human body ... abused and neglected and it quits way too soon. On the other hand, a RV properly maintained, stored out of the sun, and regularly operating all systems ... a very long time. There are a good many well built (quality) RVs on the road after 30 years.

A well maintained used coach gets you passed the new coach problems (and major depreciation) and into saving tons of money. I personally would have no problems purchasing a DP coach up to 10 years old that had good service records. Something else to consider though is if you can afford it you could buy new and depreciate the coach therefore using it as a tax write off.

We have a 2007 Newmar Essex. Purchased it 9 years old with 65k miles... As mention, key for us it was always garaged, good maintenance records & outside the major depression age. Kept the operational cost down the last 18 months by doing most house work myself (lots of google). Chassis work I leave to the pros. Everywhere we go people think it is only a year or two old. Couldn't be happier.

same thing with our '02 DSDP. Never a problem with a "10 yr rule" either.

We have a 2001 Newmar MountainAire. 41 ft DP. Bought used last year book price. 95% shape. Records well kept and stored inside. We have been very pleased. Definitely recommend dp vs. gas in used market. A lot of talk about gas ones needing rebuilt engine after 100k miles.

We purchased a 2002 MADP 3 years ago. It has been a great coach, maintenance was performed regularly and from what I can tell was not abused. We have made upgrades and continued the maintenance. These old coaches if taken care of will go many years.

Our 04 Newmar Mountain Aire DP came to us with 89k miles and all maintenance records from two meticulous owners since new. It has been used and taken care of and we have had no problems. We expect it to provide many more years of quality service. As has been said, a good Newmar that has been cared for will probably provide a long, useful life.

We just sold an 05 Navigator with just 65k on the clock. Still a fine coach. However we bought an 2017 Dutch Star 4369. My my what a change the industry has made in the last 10 years. All the electronics have changed for the better. The fit and finish is so much better. So if I were you I would buy a 2013 or newer diesel coach. Dutch Star would be a good starting place. Diesel for several reasons. First the engine is in the back so little noise up front.second diesel lasts much longer and gets better mileage. Third bucket load of torque to get you up a hill in fashion.

Something that I don't agree with, we have been to several RV campgrounds were they have a age restriction of 10 years old. I believe this is to keep the super old RV's out that may have potential safety hazards and poor appearance, I can't see this happening with the older higher end units. Just an FYI

1st off, I am a Monaco nut, so...Newmar makes great coaches new and old. We started full time in 2012 in a no slide gasser and moved up to a 2001 Monaco Dynasty in 2015. Gave the gasser to my son and family since I was upside down in it and still make the $400 mo payment ( measured inheritance )
Our Dynasty had 48,000 miles and looked great inside and out, always stored inside. Absolutely everything still worked and still does. It is not about how much money you spend...It is about what you get for the money. Many talk about easing into motor homing by buying a gasser and trading up later. The no frills gasser that I bought new cost the same as the 15 yr old loaded, 370 hp. 2 slide, AquaHot, 2 air con, sat dish, washer and dryer, double pane windows, air ride, air leveling, quiet driving, smooth riding, RV palace. Again I am a Monaco man but I would be willing to consider an older Newmar DP.

We purchased our current coach 3 years ago after purchasing 2 gassers new in the past a 95" Minnie Winnie Class C & 05" Voyage Class A. Ordered our first one from the factory. Our current coach is awesome. Now we purchased it for $70,000 and had to put around $12,000 to bring the chassis back up to road worthy status and up grade the interior. Installed complete laminate flooring, all new entertainment system with LED TVs and outside TV, awning replacement etc. We still only have $82,000 into it and it's worth on NADA around $95-$100,000. People compliment us all the time on what a nice coach it is and are surprised when I tell them it's an "06". Newmar's are solid rigs and the company is solid too. IMHO buy an older diesel pusher that's been well taken care of and you won't go wrong. A Dutch Star or even a Kountry Star like mine and I'd recommend say 2005 and up. Just be patient and take your time. You'll find something that fits you.
