How to adjust mirror arms?
I’d like to move the passenger’s side mirror outboard by an inch or two. In the current position, my visibility is poor down that side of the coach. I checked the manuals and I can’t find any information on adjusting the mirror arm. How his this accomplished? There’s something on the bottom of the arm where it mounts to the coach that appears to be a small cap or cover plate. Is there an adjustment bolt under this cap? I don’t want to start pulling things apart if this isn’t the right place to make an adjustment.
Thanks very much.

Remove cap at bottom of mirror to expose bolt that holds mirror to arm. Loosen bolt and you may have to wiggle mirror to free it loose. If it doesn’t come loose, with bolt loose but threaded, lightly tap on bolt to free mirror.

Not sure we have same mirrors, but under the cap I had an Allen bolt to loosen.

Thanks. I’ll remove the cap and have a look.

My mirrors are Ramco 130767 side mounted, heated exterior mirrors in chrome.

There should be a cap at the bottom of the mounting bracket that you can pop out with a small blade. That covers a 9/16" head bolt that you will need to remove (there is a taper on the arm so as the bolt is tightened, it draws the arm down into the mounting bracket). After removing the bolt, you will need to take a rubber mallet and hit the arms from the bottom/sides to break it free from the mount. There is a threaded insert pressed into the first elbow of the arm, so do not hit the bolt while threaded in the arm as you only run the risk of knocking the insert out of the casting.

Thanks. I’m going to try to adjust it later this week when it warms up a bit. It’s -4° F here as I type this, and I don’t feel like messing with it! It only needs to be adjusted outboard by an inch or less. I’m hoping that it will be easy.

Your question about the arm is answered. When I adjusted mine, I walked down a row of motorhomes looking at the mirror positions, most were about 3 - 4" out from the side of the coach wall. I like my mirrors positioned so I can see the outside edge of the rear tires where they contact the ground.

Yes, it is answered and yes, I do too. That’s why I need to adjust it.

The bolt at the bottom goes into a cone shape nut. The tighter you tighten, the more it wedges in there. You don't need to remove the bolt and really shouldn't. Loosen the bolt and then whack the mirror with your palm.
When I set up mine, I move the mirror head to the distance I want it away from the coach, I like it as tight as possible to reduce striking objects. Once the arm is where you want it, I loosen the allen bolts and twist the head, so the mirror glass is centered side to side, so there is no big gap on one side of the glass. This may take several adjustments of the mirror head to center the mirror. Once the glass is centered left to right, I then make sure the head is standing straight up and down. Once all of these are met, I tighten everything down.

Good suggestion to use rubber mallet vs hit threaded bolt. I didn’t realize there was a threaded insert. It makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out.

The reason we suggest removing the bolt completely is to minimize the risk of breaking the part of the mounting casting that goes around the bolt. The impact from hitting the arm could cause the bolt to shift and break a circular piece of that casting off right around the bolt.
