How to remove stubborn windshield streaks?

We have windshield streaks from the air conditioner runoff. In the past, the streaks were easily removed with soap and water and a windshield squeegee.

Now I have 10 to 12 streaks measuring about 3/8 inch from top to bottom of the windshield that are difficult to remove. Soap and water with a bug sponge won't work. I used 3M fine cut polish and that worked but it was a lot of effort for just one streak. And, I would rather not be on a ladder.

I have read on the RV forums that you can use steel wool but haven't tried that. I was also considering Magic Eraser. Will either scratch the glass?

I would appreciate your suggestions.

I use steel wool 0000 only. It has not scratched the glass. I attach a pad to the bottom of a battery powered orbital hand sander. Works well.

I have been told not to use anything courser than 0000

Before you try anything else give me a day or two to go to my RV and find the name of the product I just purchased for that stain issue. I got it a few weeks ago and used it last week on all windows with staining. Worked like a charm! Obviously I don’t remember the brand name but will share it ASAP.

I second the 4-0 steel wool with lots of water - add a little soap as needed to cut the crud and bugs. Only use the steel wool on glass ....

I had hard water stains on the windshield of my convertible that I tried a bunch of products including 0000 steel wool. Nothing worked. I was almost resigned to replacing the windshield which I really did not want to do.

Then I spotted DW's Norwex paste she uses to clean the ceramic stove top. Nothing to loose right?
So using a stiff foam polishing pad on my dual action polisher and this powder with a water spray, I went at it. Amazing results. The glass is Smooooth and the water spots are gone.

This was one of the products given to me by a friend to try. Works on fiberglass but not so good on my windshield.

0000 steel wool worked for me in the past. No scratching of the glass. To stop the steaking, mostly from the roofing material, I added a flexible gutter along the top edge of the windshield framing.

I recommend, Zaino Brothers Z-12 Clear View Glass Polish - similar to a liquid polishing compound, it contains just enough of a pumice type abrasive that it easily removes all kinds contaminants from the surface of the glass. Once you wipe the dried haze off "The glass will be so clear you can stick your fingers through it"! 1 small bottle will last for years.

I was recently surprised to discover "Barkeeper's Friend" is a great and safe product for cleaning hard water spots and streaking stains from the windshield. If you do a Google or You Tube search, you will find much in support of it. I tried it and found it really does work.

Why don't you use a bead of sealant across the roof to direct the run off from AC or even the roof dirt from running across your windshield and into the long gutters you have on roof line of coach and out your gutter drains????

I use CRL Water Spot Remover from Amazon $20.65 for a quart bottle. I used this on my 2010 Ventana window stains and simply put IT WORKS.

Get the Kaboom in the purple spray can. It really works, foam is purple, when it turns white it's clean, and it's inexpensive.
