How to show mileage while parked?

I know...strange question right?

Well, we are FINALLY getting around to trying to register this thing (in Florida, YAY!) and I'm attempting to fill out the application and of course it's wanting the mileage.

So we're parked with all slides out, and I turned on the engine and cycled through all the screens I can see and I'm not seeing the odometer, only trip stuff. Am I doing something wrong?

I have an '05 DSDP (Spartan). Under the speedo I have two pushbuttons (side by side). Pushing one them shows mileage. Hope this helps.

I did that and it only showed 2500 miles which is what we did from NC ...hmmm, do you think the odometer is not working??? Ugh

I did text the PO and so far no comment.

Frankly, I’m having a hard time grasping the problem. In my ‘02 Dutch Star DP I just power on the key and the basic gauges light up, including the odometer.

On our Essex, with a Spartan chassis, we have the Ametek light bar. Attached are the instructions for how to work through all the display options ... hope this helps.

On our Dutch Star with the engine NOT running I turn the headlights on. The odometer reading then displays on the light bar until I turn off the light switch.
Freightliner chassis so not sure if the same is in place for the Spartan chassis?

We don't have that light bar. It's just a small screen in the center display (Spedometer) at the bottom.

The problem is, I'm not seeing the expected mileage, around 45K, I'm only seeing Trip distance.

I'll try and take pictures tomorrow. Very strange.

How to show mileage while parked?

So I verified I cannot find the expected mileage. I had my wife look over my shoulder and together we rotated through all the menus and as you can see in the pictures the miles show 2501 which is the exact miles that we’re on our trip meter which I’ve cleared.

I change the house batteries a few weeks ago and used the battery disconnect, do you think that would have somehow wiped out the total miles? And if so how do we get it back?

Sounds like I’ll need to call Spartan.

Looking at the photos, it appears the the 2501.1 is the current odometer reading on your vehicle. Normally, the odometer can not be reset by removing power to the speedometer / odometer, it is normally held in nonvolatile memory. Maybe your odometer memory circuit has failed in some way when power was removed.

The age of your vehicle may exempt it from the odometer disclosure rules.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases...e-requirements Don't know if this applies in your case.

Newer vehicles keep a separate odometer reading in the ECM that can be read using a code reader or other compatible reader on the data port. Yours may be old enough to not have this option.

The previous owner, if required in your state, should have given you an odometer statement that could be used on to fill out your new registration.

Good luck.

If it's a more recent Freightliner chassis, just turn on the headlights with engine off.

It's a Spartan chassis, but I tried it anyway....no luck.
Thanks.

That same trick works on my New Aire too. Learned it from tech at Newmar Service Center.

Yes, I did try that on my Spartan Chassis rig..but didn't work. Sigh...
But the good news, we JUST took the rig in today to get an oil change and other things looked at and that's 1st on the list.

According to Spartan tech support, the mileage 'should' still be in the ECM and they should be able to get it displaying again....fingers crossed!

The mileage should be held in memory during a battery disconnect.
Do you have the chassis owner's manual? The procedure should be outlined in the manual.
Are there any receipts for service which may have the mileage recorded or a sticker from an oil change service somewhere on the vehicle?
How about under the hood? Often times people will write dates and miles when they service something like an air filter.
I have a NY State Inspection sticker on my windshield which has the miles written on the inside of the sticker when the inspection was done.
Will the license bureau accept 'Mileage unknown'? Might be worth a call.
