How well does your DSDP level?

Our '17 Dutch Star 4018 Diesel Pusher won't level itself unless it's darn-near perfectly level to begin with. Now, I know the leveling jacks won't lift the tires clear in the air like my old Gas Class A would do, but it seems like the leveling system is really prohibitive with my DSDP.

It won't even level in a lot of RV parks and parking lots, which don't have much slope at all. I get the "excess slope" warning light before it seems like the jacks try to do much of anything. The DSDP doesn't level on air, so that isn't an option (something I will be sure to remember if/when I get another RV...).

Is something wrong, or is it common?

It may be that your auto leveling feature has not been
calibrated. Check your owners manual and find guidance
to re-set the system so it knows what level is.......
sounds like it thinks you are way out of level when you
are not. Common issue with most new motorhomes.

Previous poster was right, check the calibration. Not that you should do it but the leveler should be very capable of lifting the wheels off the ground, I know from experience 😄

Make sure the airbags are dumping before the leveler start to lower. It should be automatic if you use auto leveling, but the dump valves may be not working. If the suspension air is dumped and you still can't level off on slight slopes than the leveling system needs to be checked out. The leveling jacks on the DS are perfectly capable of lifting the tires off the ground. Gas coaches are shorter and the jacks are closer to each other, so they can level on steeper slopes then typical diesel coaches. By the way, most air leveling systems have smaller range than hydraulic leveling systems.

Air bags are indeed dumping before it begins to level.

Sounds like as others mentioned your system needs to be re-calibrated. I had same issue on our previous coach and re-calibrating took care of issue.

I recalibrated the system myself. It was easy once I found where the leveling sensor was (back bay near the inverter on my 2015) and got a copy of the instructions. It is very simple. I had a compound problem, however. One of the jack sensors was not working on my brand new DSDSP as well. So after both corrected, the later by the dealer, it will auto level, but not always perfectly. Just the nature of the beast. It may be I have to recalibrate again using the "fine tuning mode".

On a long trip recently, I found that after I used the automatic leveling feature, the coach really didn't get as level as I like. I then pushed the auto leveling again. To my surprise, the coach leveled again and was perfect. Personally, I think the air dump during "Auto" level doesn't allow the airbags to completely dump.

A couple of times when I got an "Excessive Slope" light, I lowered the coach some, manually, and then leveled again without getting the "Excessive Slope" light. These levelers do a good job but just aren't perfect. I think they occasionally go to far (over lift) and then can't correct that.

Can you manually dump the air to get it down then hit the auto level button? A question from a person who does not have a coach yet.....

The coach does indeed dump the bags before it begins leveling. I've also tried hitting the auto-level again after it goes into "excess slope" but it doesn't help.

This is one of the spots where it wouldn't level and I had to do it manually:

Occasionally we have same issue of excessive slope when it shouldn't and we do same as Dutch Star Don (store and auto level again) and that takes care of the problem.

I use a bubble level app on my smartphone to see where the coach is starting from. If the slope warrants...I put Hosspads under the lowside jacks before hitting the Autolevel function. This is usually all it takes to avoid excessive slope problem. By themselves...the jacks do not have a lot of range ---thus the excessive slope indication. Works well for me.
