Shade Pro had the step covers for our LA.

Tom, you mentioned replacing the entire step assembly at a cost of 10K. Where did you source that? I ordered from HWH yesterday for under 5K but they can't give me a delivery date...Maybe late fall...

This was posted a couple weeks ago on irv2 by some one who was traveling in Canada. They need numerous parts to repair their step and neither HWH or Newmar had the parts except Newmar had the complete assembly which they got. They said that it did include both shipping and no tax but the price was 10K American.

I am seriously wanting to upgrade to something with a 605 hp engine but wish I could get something newer without them is there an option not to get them?

Look at post #32 here https://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/ver...-585756-2.html Steve, Those new HWH cascading step's were a great idea, but way under engineered! Quality and thought! Junk!
Buy the Coach you want, tear them out and replace with a track proven record step! OEM in my Essex, work problem free.
The new steps used in 2022 are 3x the price of the ones used in 2021 and prior. Supposedly they are stronger and have better sensors. I still feel like there is a weakness on the left side of the steps, and try to focus weight on the center.
I have the 7 year 0 deductible warranty from NIRVC, and these steps where one of the reasons I purchased that warranty. One replacement covers the cost of the warranty.

This is a great example of why these warranties can be advantageous! Something that seems as minor as a couple steps has a large amount of engineering behind it, and with engineering and moving parts, there is always opportunity for failure. I think of these warranties as piece of mind!
I know this is a resurrection an old post but I thought those that have had the HWH step rails cracking would like to know what I did to further reinforce it. I did the repair that everyone else was doing with welding a reinforcing plate on the cracked rail, but 6 months later I discovered a hairline fracture in the weld.
Upon further inspection when putting weight on the steps the rail was flexing outward about a 1/16th of a inch which is what was causing the rail to crack in the first place. The project was, how to keep the rail from flexing outward.
To the side of the rail is a steel plate that runs from the top of the step housing to the bottom. It is quite hefty as it is the main vertical support for the structure. So what I did was drill a 1/2 hole through the metal plate from inside the wheel well in line with the outer portion of the rail. I then installed a 1/2 x 1.5 bolt, using washers and double nuts to lock to shim and adjust it to have just enough pressure against rail to prevent it from flexing.
I have to say it worked, there is no more rail movement. Only time will tell is this was a second step to fixing a really bad design.

We were just in Moscow IO. at HWH and had our steps repaired. 1600 in parts and 440 for labor. 2 men worked over 5 hours and just as we had when there with our Essex great job. As we knew they suggested on entering the coach to try to step in the middle of step when entering. We did add a 1/8 by 1 inch strap to the second step 11 inches long with rivets and a little JB weld since this was the area the we had a long crack. Step seemed firmer after adding the strap. Again we would suggest at truck fuel stops to watch for the round cement curbs since this was part of the cause to the step damage.

I have not had anywhere near the issues mentioned above. But I have had the grim guard (plastic plate beneath the steps) crack and one hydraulic piston have a slow leak.
I was told to be very careful with there steps.
1. When parking and before opening the door, look to make sure there is plenty of room for the steps to extend.
2. Do not step on them before they have fully extended.
3. Avoid stepping on the corners of the lowest step, try to use the center as much as you can.
4. Before leveling, make sure there is room below the step before the coach drops out of ride height.
Even with the above, these steps are nice but ....

Yes, I replaced that same guide track without pulling out the entire step assembly, almost but not all the way out.
1) Remove power from the steps with them out.
2) Remove the two door stops and the bottom cover pan
3) Disconnect the control rods from the steps
4) I believe there are 3 or 4 bolts holding each the fwd and aft ends. Remove all of the bolts. The step assembly will drop slightly enough to slide the rail out the end.
5) Slide in the new rail or the repaired rail.
6) Install the bolts removed above
7) Reconnect the control arms
8) reconnect power
As you can tell the only thing I did not remove was the 2 hydraulic rams, the magnetic switches, and any wiring. When I had everything back together I did not have to do any rigging or adjustment.
The top rail, that connects the steps to the frame, cracked on my 2020 Essex ( see circle in attached image). I can't find a part number on HWH's website for that rail/bracket. How did you know the rail part numbers to order and where did you order them from?
