Hydralift motorcycle lift on 2015 Ventana LE
2015 Newmar Ventana LE 3636
The previous owner installed a Hydralift on my 2015 Ventana. The mount is still on the coach but he sold the lift itself.
Im looking for input (positive or negative) regarding installing another lift to the coach. [Moderator Edit]
My plan is to lift a 2020 BMW R1250GSA. Its just over 600 lbs wet.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Most of my searches came up with threads over a year old and I was unable to post.
thanks
chuck

Take your coach loaded for travel , over the Cat scales to find out how much payload you have remaining on the rear axle ( and tires ).
More info on this link .
http://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/moto...er-446942.html
Including a formula for calculating how much load ( weight ) you'll add to the rear axle .

I would weigh the coach before pursuing this. You have a 20k rear axle and are probably already near your NCC. Putting 600lbs plus the lift (another 400?) on the extreme rear of the coach might affect handling. On the other hand, I guess it wouldn’t be any different from 1000lbs tongue weight, right?
But then Freightliner shows your hitch rating at 5,000lbs and this would typically mean 500lbs tongue weight. I think the key is to find out how much weight is in the rear axle as is when loaded with typical travel weight.

The 2015 Ventana LE 3636
Front GAWR is 12,000
Rear GAWR is 20,000
GVWR is 31,000
GCWR is 33,000
NCC is 5,700
Using the calculation you mentioned ..........
AXB-C 1000 X 228 + 132 divided by 228 = 1,578 libs.
Im new to all this so bear with me. Im trying.

Hi - Putting a lift and bike on the back of a non-tag coach is asking for issues. I seriously doubt you can do it safely. Run the numbers as others have said but be prepared for a disappointment.

The previous owner hauled a Can-Am Spyder three wheel on the same coach. Of course that doesn't mean it was safe or within limits but he did say they never had any issue.
I listed some of the numbers in a previous post. Im still working on the rest. On Monday I plan to call Newmar to specifically talk to them about the Hydralift. I will keep you posted.
Thanks for all the input.

Well thanks for taking the time to do the calculations; and doing your best to be safe on the road.
I'm assuming you've figured the bike and lift at 1,000 lbs ; and that will load , 1,578 on the rear axle . Remember that that load placement will also lever weight up off the front axle and can result in poor handling ( steering wander) .
Just for example ;Using my coach and scale weights. The base NCC on my coach was 5,000 , with factory options and loaded for travel , I'm approx 1,100 lbs under GVWR . With only 800 lbs available at the rear axle for more weight to be added , my coach wouldn't handle the lift and bike.

Since Im new to motorhomes where weight distribution is a little more critical ..... what's the best way to weigh the coach? I see the scales on the highway and at truck stops. Are they free? Cost? How do I determine the individual axle weights?

The scales at truck stops are setup to weigh by axles. Don't remember the cost. You will see sections on the scales. Put the front axle on one section near the speaker and your back axle will be where it needs to be. They will ask what is your company and truck number. Tell them you are an RV. It is easy. I would suggest you have everything you normally have on board plus, a full fuel tank and a full fresh water tank. Grey and black tanks should be empty.

Certified scales can be found at various truck stops and cost around $8.00. Find one at a truck stop that isn’t busy and you’ll be done in 15 min. There’s other options that are free but this is reliable and predictable and you can probably find a convenient one in your area.
Here’s an example:

When I was doing all my calcs before our purchase the LE rear axle didn't have the capacity to handle the lift, which is why we went with the regular Ventana. Its rear axle rating was higher and could accommodate the lift.
As far as non tag axles not being capable, I wouldn't agree as long as the rear axle ratings are high enough to accommodate.

Update ........
I called Newmar yesterday to verify the Hydralift on my 2015 Ventana LE. Long story short ........ he said "no problem". Depending on how I load the coach it may be close to max weight but more than likely I will never know its there. To verify everything Im going to get an empty weight then weigh it again with the lift and bike on the coach.
