hydraulic fluid measurement

I have a 2014 Dutch Star. Do you check the fluid measurement with the breather cap screwed in all the way or do you check it with the breather cap sitting unscrewed at the top? I have checked the HWH manual but it does not specify which way is the correct method. I assume you check it with the breather cap screwed in all the way but I am not sure. Thanks.

The HWH manual for our 2015 DS says that the fluid should be within 1" of the top of the tank. The breather cap bottom is 1" long before the cap threads. So I check the level without screwing in the cap. If the location of your hydraulic tank is the same as ours, it is a pain to get to.

sitting unscrewed at the top is how they had mine checked at the factory when it was low..
