Hydraulic Leveling Jacks are Leaking

Hi All,

The two front leveling pads are filled with hydraulic fluid (red liquid) and one is starting to overflow a bit. What should I do? Is this something that a mobile mechanic can fix? I'm at a campsite right now.

Both jacks need to be replaced as the seals are obviously leaking. Not urgent if you can live without being level but a mobile mechanic won't be much help.

Should I retract the jacks to stop the leaking?

Yes, as that will stop the pump trying to pressure the system.

A mobile mechanic should be able to R&R them for you and may have access to a local hydraulic shop that might be able to rebuild them. Depending on where you are, I would check into that before buying new jacks.

Are you sure the piston seals are where the leak is? I have had/seen fluid leaks on the "Jack up" sensors...........Mine was leaking(Thread started) and I found the plastic piece on the bottom of the sensor, that has a o-ring on it, needed snugged down a bit, leak stopped. Look/inspect the cylinder to make sure what is actually leaking......
Just a thought from my experience......I thought my jack seal was leaking also.

Omg man, I'm so sorry. I know stuff slips by QA but seriously, what a hassle for the money invested. I know I know all new Rs need "stuff" done to them, but I'd be a little upset here. Fluids on the ground is a tad too far

It's up to US to hold them accountable, which of course they are, I hope they attend to quickly! I know what's you've spent cause I looked into it.... And it's more than I plan to spend on my next stick and brick.

Tom, even when they are new sometimes the shaft picks up some particles of dust ect that lets the seal weep like yours is doing. It did it on one of my front jacks. The mechanic sprayed some WD40 on the shaft and ran it up and down a few times which stopped the leak. I had a pretty good puddle like you do the first time it happened, and it hasn't come back like that again. Don't wipe it off, just let the seal clean the shaft with the WD 40 on it. It worked on mine and occasionally it will start up again real lightly, I do the spray and clean it up and it stops the weeping. It is worth a try if you are on the road.
