HYDRN Heater Fan

My fan is DEAD. It makes not a sound, a whine, nada, zilch. Could it be a fuse or something that I can check with my limited know how? Any advice would be appreciated. Always on a Sunday....sigh.

Just saw this post, what fan are you referring to?

If it is the one on the dashboard, it works off the thermostat in zone one, at least on my coach. Sorry if you already knew that. I don't have time to look for the fuse this morning, but it is probably in the outside electrical bay, front left bay compartment.

I'm not sure what HYDRN heater fan is but I'm guessing that's some name for the furnace fan. Stating what you probably know, with FURNACE on (not heat pump) as set on the thermostat, and the fans ON for the areas that have fan on/off controls, the fan will come on when the thermostat says to turn on the heat. So it will cycle on and off as heat is needed. My coach has a black rocker switch under the dash radio for the fan under the dash area (hi, lo, off) which is very effective for heating, I didn't realize what it was for for months.

Things to check: Are other fans coming on in the same zone with furnace on? Is OASIS on such as ACII or Burner? The fans are on the 12V circuit so there is probably a fuse for them somewhere.

All other fans in zone 1 are working. The fan by the dash where the rocker switch is located finally came on today when I tried it again. It has been making a whining and screeching sound. Someone mentioned to me that it may have seized up. So since it came on this morning, I don’t think it’s a fuse. Maybe it got too much action when I was freezing in NC?

At FPU my tech noticed a weird noise (I didn’t) from one of the fans and sure enough one of the fan blades was broken. It could be anything (bearing, bushing) etc.

Well, you could have NIRVC look at it while you’re there in Dallas [emoji15] or just wait and see and not panic right now. It may just go away.

Umm, don’t you have heated floors? I thought you folk never used real heat

Thanks for responding. Guess I don't have to check for a fuse since it decided to work today although it's not sounding right. [emoji15]

Hey Stuart! What ptw said..the front fan controlled by the rocker switch on the dashboard when zone 1 furnace is on. Of course it doesn't work on Sun and miraculously on a Monday it is working. Sounding rough though.

Ohh no, no, no Dallas for me. I will not be swayed by going to NIRVC by all the new purty coaches. I'm heading to Kerrville on my way to AZ. I hear there is a Newmar dealer in Tucson so I can get it checked there.

Can't imagine not having heated floors and the fireplace gives good heat too, but it got in the 20's last night and I needed some extra oomph, Meester Troublemaker, especially by the front of the coach...plus I like everything in working order whether I'm using it or not. From what I could see when looking it is much easier to access the stuff behind the dash with the 2019 DS than 2018. Not that it really matters because I wouldn't know what to do when I got back there anyway unless my teacher...that's you Stuart took photos and diagrams and gave me the 1,2,3 steps DIY for dummies instructions. [emoji51] Time to hit the road....Cajun Palms RV Resort is calling me.

Well if it’s working now, I would say the fuse location is a moot point as fuses are not typically intermittent. When this happened I assume you had no fan speeds. I would say your more likely looking at a loose connection or failing fan motor. If it’s working now, taking it into a dealer while it’s working probably won’t be very fruitful, unless you see the London Aire of your dreams, I can say with all certainty that the LA would fix this problem [emoji6], 605 HP!!! I totally agree that the 2019 DS dash design is much easier to work on.

My bet is the t-stat didn't call for it to be on. But it's all moot in her new King Aire. The coach is a beauty. Can't wait for the signature line to change.

On your V doesn’t the fan work without the T stat on, I’m not at my coach but pretty sure the fan turns on independent of T stat

I'm assuming this is the furnace fan, not the overhead fan. So yes, in order for the furnace fan UNDER the dash center section to come on the t-stat has to be commanded to "furnace" and the temp drop below the t-stat setting so as to call for heat in the zone.

Simply stated, you have small radiators throughout your coach. The majority of them are on Zone 1, the rest on Zone two or three depending on coach length. Coolant flows to all those radiators, including the one under the dash and the one in the half bath, when the furnace is on. When there is a call for heat, the fans come on blowing past those radiators, heating the coach. All of the fans come on automatically, including the fan at the dash and the fan in the half bath. BUT, Newmar added a switch into the wiring at the dash and half bath so that you can turn those two fans off independently (manually) while leaving the rest of fans (systems) running.

If you turn those two fan switches on, the fans will not operate until the others come on.....since they're all on the same wiring. So they do nothing when the heat is off and the thermostat is not calling for heat.
