Looking for some help and advice on installing a CB radio in Bay Star Sport. Would like to mount a Firestick side mount antenna on Bay Star Sport above driver's side window/windshield, but DH is really nervous about drilling holes into the side of the unit without any specs or diagrams to show what might be laying behind the sidewall/A pillar.

Was wondering if Newmar is able to provide specs/diagrams of what is in this area to aid in installation of CB. Has anyone on the Forum done this type of install and have advice/recommendations?

Hi 15650street,
There are bunches of wires in the pillar. If the antenna is installed high enough there should not be a problem. Look at

For the best possible performance 2/3s of the antenna should be above the roof line.

Thanks GaryD. Planning on 2 ft firestick mounted about the same as in the photos--about 6" beneath the roof line leaving 1.5 ft above. Don't want it too high and hitting things. Appreciate the response.

Hi 15650street,
Consider:
1. Removing the inside pillar cover. This exposes the wiring.
2. Drill a pilot hole from the inside to the outside. This ensures you will hit nothing on the inside.
3. Drill the main hole from the outside into the coach.

You should be fine.

Put a spring between the antenna and the mount in case it does hit something so you don't break anything. Those shorter antenna are less flexible, and the spring will flex instead of breaking something on the antenna, mount, or structure it's attached to. The spring will hurt your transmit and receive a tiny bit, but I doubt anyone could notice on such a short antenna anyways.
