Our rate is $1000 on an RV thats worth about $40k... thats with statefarm...
I suspect the value of the RV, and the area, have a huge impact...

Our friends had a saying.....an insurance company will never be loyal to you, so you don't need to be loyal to them.
Shop around and evaluate your limits on the policy. Often people tell an insurance company to quote the same options and limits they have on their cars. You don't need a rental car and you can easily make the deductible $1000.00. Also check to see if you're asking for replacement cost coverage or market value. Replacement cost coverage can be much higher.
Insurance all over the country is going through the roof to cover all the disasters.
Our friends are shopping for insurance for their London Air and so far found Progressive was the best price. I'm not a Progressive fan, but sometimes you have to use what's out there as long as the coverage is what you want.

texgirl,
That quote is way out of proportion as to what you should be paying. I know your coach is a lot bigger than mine but my annual payment through Progressive is 2,115 per year. I live in SE Texas. As DutchStar Don said, shop around I am sure you should be able to find something cheaper.

State Farm gave us a decent rate ($3,000) and has always done right for me when there was a claim on my autos or home.

Replacement costs and location has everything to do with premiums--tornadoes, hurricanes, and hail in Texas doesn't help.

Insurance cost should have been considered as part of the purchasing choice. Different brands, models, years, can have drastically different insurance costs. For collision and comp while the value goes down the risk of a claim goes up with age and mileage. Are you a new RV driver? That may also have an impact for a year or two. Even as an experienced driver, mistakes happen.
Look at the policy offering and see what the cost drivers are. For the most part there will the cost of the Liability and related coverages, and then the collision and comprehensive. For the collision and comp if you have a loan there will be minimum coverages required. There may be room to lower these costs based on how much risk you can take. For liability, that covers what you may do to others. That can include guests and neighbors.

Get a quote from Miller Insurance. We were full-timers and Texas residents and they did well with us. They are very popular for full-timers .... and others.

I got my motorhome Progressive insurance policy through Roamly Insurance in Austin, TX https://www.roamly.com/ 3 years ago for $1610 per year based on MSRP of $240,000, 250/500 K liability, $1000 ded collision, $250 ded comp, 250/500K uninsured, limited roof and per pest damage protection, personal effects, vacation liability, emergency expenses. The policy did not include personal fulltime liability. I also carry a separate Umbrella policy through Progressive.

Your quote is not too far out of line. You are in a higher risk area than I am and ours runs about $3800 per year.

In auto insurance, your credit score, and "insurance profile" will determine your rate, along with the other factors.
Progressive advertises $125/yr liability, and that does not require perfect credit or driving record.

texgirl,
I think going directly to Progressive was a mistake. I went through Roamly as Camp CA did. They do research and get you the best price. I suggest giving them a call.
