Interesting problem??

Last night on our way to Atlanta, GA we stopped at a truck stop for the night. I went to level the coach and when the left front jack went to extend it got part way and then the ENTIRE coach went dead (engine and genny shut off). We had no power to anything. After checking found the 150 Amp circuit breaker in the engine compartment tripped. I re-set the breaker and tried to retract the jacks, no problem, everything was normal. I repeated the process and once again when the left front jack started to extend it tripped the breaker. I should mention that after re-setting the breaker the jack would extend without incident. I'm thinking that there might be a wire grounding out, but not sure why it wouldn't repeat after re-setting the breaker or when the jack is retracting.

Could the jack be binding in one particular place and causing the breaker to trip?

To trip a 150 amp breaker you need a major short. Have you checked to see if there are any big cables that are routed close to the left jack that may have a damaged insulation cover that could be making contact with the jack when it is extending?

........ or a major overloading of the circuit, which would lead me to consider the jack was jamming or binding in some fashion. However, I would think that would trip a breaker more directly associated with the jack. Why the main?? Were there any other loads being carried at the time?

I've had that happen a couple times on my K3 chassis. Had Spartan check out the chassis wiring and the breaker, and had Newmar check out the jacks. Never did get a definitive answer on it. Hasn't happened in ages, so I don't worry about it.

You may have a battery cable routed on chassis rail near that jack, the straight down jack will pivot in its jack stand for what ever surface the pad may hit as it extends to have a solid footing under pad..
The top of jack and hose fitting maybe hitting cable.

Well today no problems at all. Lowered and raised the jacks and it never tripped. The only thing I can come up with is last night the HWH system said I was on an " excessive" slope. Hope that's all it was, have to wait and see tomorrow.

I think that is the issue. When I had my active air installed, I had the limit on the hydraulic jacks reduced 3% to prevent hyper extension. I was told that the draw would overload when it detects excess slope if this value was too high.

I don't think they manual controls allow adjustment of this value.

I believe 007 's theory needs to be checked out... If the jack is hitting a battery cable, this could cause major sparks/fire. Get this looked at!

I have seen this happen causing the breaker to trip.
