Inverter 2006 Ventana 3330
When unplugging from shore power, I have been turning the inverter on.
Conversely before I plug into shore power I turn the inverter off.
Only on this unit have I been doing this. The Winnie's I have owned I feel sure I just turned the inverter on and forgot about it. Don't think I turned it off or on depending on shore power.
Am I doing it right or is it Unnecessary to turn it off or on???
Thanks.

Hi ichn2go,
Consider turning it on and forget about it. The only time my inverter is off is when I replace or maintain the coach batteries.

On my previous 2004 DSDP I made the mistake of always turning off my inverter when hooked to shore power. For the life of me I couldn't figure why the batteries were not charging. I thought they were too old and replaced them all. Then at the 2013 International Rally I attended a seminar and was told to never turn it off, or the batteries would not be recharged. Costly error, expensive lesson. Blue Skies.

I only turn my inverter ON when I need 120VAC power and have no shore or generator 120 VAC.
I bet it's been on less than a total of 8 hours during it's now 20 year life.
Different strokes for different folks.

Nothing you're doing is wrong. It depends on what's hooked to the inverter. On my previous coaches, I only turned on the inverter when I needed 120vac when there was no shore power or generator power. On my all electric Ventana, I leave it always on since the refer is running off it.

Let me expand a bit.
With my xantrex applying shore or genny power then automatically the inverter turns off and the battery charger turns on. Conversely when removing shore or genny the inverter comes on and the charger is off.
Manually Turning off the inverter precludes the inverter function but does not disable the battery charger.
So I see little need to manually switch off the unit. I would think yours operates same or similar. However YMMV.

Long ranger:
My chassis batteries were dead after sitting two weeks, even with 50a!
Had to use battery boost to start.
Is BIRD defective or will leaving on RV2012 Xantrax solve this problem?

Hello Golden Gopher, Mine had a Xantrax. When I plugged in to shore power the top green light would start blinking. I thought it was telling me to turn it off. So, I did. I didn't have a BIRD system to my knowledge.
Thanks for the PM. I had withdrawn from this line. BTW, my dad graduated from UM in 1926. He later worked for Cargill in Minneapols and later in Buenas Aires. Blue Skies and Safe Travels
