Inverter/charger question

As noted in a previous post I had some bad luck with new to me coach. KSDP

I have a specific question about my inverter. Inverter works fine except for the battery charger side. All outlets work as they should and the remote also works as it should.

A replacement inverter and remote is over $2000.00 + installation etc.

Is there any reason that I can't hook up a "smart" charger for $250 instead of spending 10 times that on a new inverter.

I don't want to cause any new issues but if the only risk is to the inverter I am not too worried as the charger portion is already damaged.

Any advice is appreciated especially if you have any direct experience.

I can see no reasn you can't hook up a "smart" charger.
(That's what I would do if ONLY the charger portion of my combination inverter/converter/charger failed).

Get your self a good voltage/OHM meter and do a few test on the battery charging wire running from the charger portion to the batteries to ensure that you don't have a broken wire or some other easily fixed issues.

I would be concerned. If the Inverter/charger is supplying any power connecting another 12 V source has the potential to damage both units or do nothing. One cannot really do more than guess without knowing the circuitry involved.

I would look into having the faulty unit repaired or rebuilt if someone offers the service. It should be a lot less expensive.
