To use inverter or not to use an inverter?

Well we do, and we helped Mac the Fire Guy run his fridge while driving on a separate inverter just for this purpose. So that is two people that add a second inverter to run the RV refrigerator.

That’s a choice. You may have noticed that I said people “generally” don’t do that.

If I were to throw money at my RV refrigerator, I’d have it converted to a 12V compressor. That would eliminate the inefficiency of an inverter, the inefficiency of running an RV refrigerator on 120VAC and it would greatly reduce the risk of a refrigerator fire. We also tend to just turn the refrigerator off while driving. Everything stays cold for 6 hours or more.

Behind my fridge are two separate 120vac outlets, one marked Fridge, and the other marked Ice Maker. Ice maker outlet is powered by the inverter, genset or shore; fridge is powered by the genset or shore only. Personally, I'd not run the fridge off the inverter, nor the hwh, as they gobble too much power.
