Inverter putting out too many volts?
Inside of my coach I have an Amp meter plugged so I can always keep man eye on the amps on my 110 outlets. The dial is always in the green zone (112 - 128) Amps. But the other day I was not hooked to shore, and when I flipped on the Inverter, The meter was reading 135 Amps.. is this something to worry about? VACMAN

Vacman - Are you reading amps or volts? Most 110 volt outlets will read voltage in the range you describe. You would not read amperage unless you had something plugged in to that particular outlet and the reading you describe would be very high. Think we need more info.

VACMAN, your meter is reading VOLTS ! 108-132 is ok---120 Volt AC is the preferred standard.
The 135 reading off the inverter is most likely ok also, because the meter is not able to read true RMS Voltage from the simulated sinewave that the inverter produces.

135 volts is too high whether it's from the inverter, generator or shore power.
If your inverter is a modified sine wave unit, then a "True RMS" volt meter is required to obtain an accurate reading.
Using a NON True RMS volt meter will result in an inaccurate LOW voltage reading.
I believe some investigating is in order.

What does RMS stand for? what does "TRUE RMS" volt meter mean ? If I shop for a meter should I look for one that says "TRUE RMS" ?

Dave's link offers some good info.
I suggest getting a True RMS volt meter to get accurate readings from modified sine wave inverters.
They're not too expensive. Sears, and Amazon.com are 2 places to shop.
