Inverter question. Magnum ME2012. Residential fridge, microwave
Inverter 2000W original dated 2005. I still have the norcold fridge and was considering replacing with a residential fridge. First time I’ve tried out inverter today. Outlet for fridge is not power when inverter is on…guessing I would have to do some electrical work to get power to that outlet from inverter?
Turned on original microwave that is rated at 1500 watts, it worked but didn’t sound right when it cycled into heating stage. I have seen some info that warned not all microwaves play well with inverters. Could this be the case?
Any insight on the 2 questions above would be welcomed.

I don't believe that Newmar would have installed a microwave and an inverter to power it , if they weren't compatible.
Are any other outlets on the inverter ? TV etc.
To your knowledge , is the microwave original ?
Are your coach batteries in good shape ? 2 batteries or 4 for the coach ?

Your inverter is MSW, modified square wave, and will make the microwave growl. It will also be less efficient running thr fridge and may not be recommended by the manufacturer.
Replace it with a PSW, pure sine wave, inverter or pick up a 1000 watt PSW inverter just for the fridge. Install it near the batteries and run a cord to the fridge.

First thing to check.....you should have a duplex (double) outlet) are the rear of the Norcold. The Norcold has two plugs, one for the refer and one for the icemaker. The icemaker is typically on the inverter so you can make ice while boondocking. So, even though you have just the one outlet box at the back, test both plugs to see if one is on the inverter.
When we had our 2005 Diplomat with the same inverter you have, it did make the microwave growl when used on inverter. For that reason, we never used it for more than a couple of minutes to heat something up on the road. If we were boondocking, we would fire up the generator for any use of the microwave for more extensive cooking.

Excellent advice by all! Don, I’ll check the other plug tomorrow. Will look in to the PSW alternative as well if I decide to change out the fridge. Pretty familiar w electrical, but wondering why residential fridge would not work well with what I have at 2000 watts.

It's not the watts, it's the way they creat the AC voltage.

Back when the Norcold's were failing and residential refers were first showing up in motorhomes, many went with the Samsung 197 refers as they were similar in size to the Norcold, just a little taller. They also were 110 volt powered but converted internally to 12 volts to run the compressor. For that reason, they worked well with the older Modified Sine Wave inverters.
A new refer will probably work with the MSW Magnum you have, as mine did in my 2005 Monaco for many years. What you may need though is to find room for a couple more batteries if you boondock on occasion.
The MSW inverters REALLY disliked coffee makers and electric blankets, they were burning them up quickly.

Our friends just had a similar problem on a 5th wheel. They were getting ready to replace the inverter when they discovered the cord for their TV shorted out when caught while moving the slide.
