Inverter Voltage

After refusing to pay $700 to repair or $4K to replace our Norcold refrigerator, I installed a 23 cubic foot residential one. I have checked the voltage from the inverter so I could rewire the panel for the new refrigerator to run while traveling. I got only 102 Volts at the bottom of the breaker. I read the Xantrex manual and it states that the voltage is RMS voltage and should be read with a RMS reading meter. So, I guess my WaveTec isn't right. There was no load on the inverter when I read the meter. Do these inverters work as a regulator? By that, I mean the higher the load, the higher the voltage? I don't want to burn up an new 'fridge byrunning low voltage. I know I can run the generator every few hours, but running off the inverter would be idiot and dementia proof for me. Thanks for any advice.

It's not clear in your post if your inverter is a modified sine wave or pure sine wave inverter.

If it's a modified sine wave inverter and your volt meter is NOT a "true RMS" meter, then your meter will read low, like you are reading.

I apologize. It is a modified sine wave inverter. I kind of thought it may be reading low, as I read the breaker for the freezer in the basement. Although we don't have a freezer down there. I didn't think Newmar would put in an inadequiet inverter, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the reply. I'll probably rewire and be on our way in three weeks from here in Ohio down to Florida for the winter via Charlotte, MI. for a PM at the factory. Leeking seal on the tag. Thanks again.
