I wish someone would tell me why Cummins/Fleetguard keeps changing their filter numbers. For years, the ISL took a LF9009 oil filter. I sold my last coach and kept the filters, thinking the fuel and oil may be the same...at least the oil. It turns out the fuel filters are completely different and one number has just been changed again.

I thought my oil filter was good, but checked Cummins Quick Serve and see that the new oil filter number is LF9187. It must be a ploy by Cummins to keep making filters obsolete.

I use to by my filters every year at the Spartan Chassis truck at Quartzsite. Since I bought a new coach a few weeks ago, I wanted a set of fuel filters as spares. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to find any online. I finally went to a large truck parts store and bought what I need. Many recommend Filter Barn, but they mostly sell Wicks filters.

So....try and find a truck parts place near you. If you have your VIN, they can pretty much look up all the numbers.

Cummins LF9187 oil filter

I looked it up in Cummins' quickserve.com and saw a reference to Fleetguard LF9009. I was looking for the same Cummins LF9187.

Saving a few $ on a filter by buying an off brand is not something I do. Sure I like to save $ but not at the possibility of getting a poor quality filter. I always buy the filter from the OEM or their supplier. One less thing to argue about if there's a problem later

I bought a spare set of filters from the shop that services my MH. For each service, they use the spare set and replace them with new filters. The price is the same as what I pay when I get the MH service. It works for me.

There is no LF9187. The ISL still uses LF9009. You can get these at Amazon, but I also use Filterbarn, although they often don't have all the filters in stock.

So buying filters from Freightliner while I am at Camp Freightliner is not a good idea?

I think it's a great idea. I typically call Gaffney to get my Maintenance and spare parts.

I just bought a pack of 6 LF9009 off amazon for $178. That's only $29ea. Up here in Canada, even with the crappy dollar, it's a big savings. I also bought my fuel filters on amazon. All are fleetguard.
