Jammed step cover on Essex

Ran into a fellow whose step cover jammed. According to him it wasn't pretty getting it unjammed. The jam was caused by a couple pins not having cotter keys in them. I suggest you look under your step cover when it's extended. Look for silver pins in the mechanism: they should have cotter keys in them. Mine didn't. I can't remember how many of them there were---it was either 4 or 6.
