Just fixed 2 year plumbing problem

I have had an annoying issue where my 12v Water Pump cycles periodically on my ‘19 MA. It seemed to start shortly after my warranty expired. I tried adjusting the pressure switch on the pump, but that didn’t work. The frequency of the cycling seemed to change depending on the position of the Water Selector Valve. About a year ago I had to replace the 12v Water Pump but the problem continued.

Over time the cycling frequency increased to a point where it cycled about every minute. So I removed the Fresh Water Tank Fill Hose and there was a slow flow of water to the tank when on Shore Water or 12v Pump. So the problem had to be in the Selector Valve. Newmar CS agreed so I purchased a new valve ($280).

Installing the new valve fixed everything. No more leak and no more 12v pump cycling. So now for the Surprise???

In looking at the old valve I was shocked to see the inner components had badly pitted. Can’t image how??? Or Why???

Here’s pictures of my old valve and a closeup of the corroded internal piece. If you have an issue with a Pulsating 12v Water Pump OR a mysterious slow filling of your Fresh Water Tank consider looking at this Valve.

I did a little searching on the internet and found something I didn't realize about brass:

Brass corrosion refers to the natural electrochemical process that occurs when a brass alloy is exposed to air and moisture. ... In another case, if the brass contains unfavorable quantities of zinc, a destructive corrosion process known as dezincification can occur.

Sounds like it's a natural occurrence for brass to corrode from water and air as may be found in a valve assembly. Or it could have been a batch of brass with too much zinc and hence corroded much more than normal for its age.

Interesting thought! However, the internal component was either Stainless Steel or Chrome. Here’s a picture of the unmanaged portion.

Do you have a part # for the valve. My 19 LA is doing the same thing. Was it slowly adding water to your fresh tank?

I simply called Newmar Parts. (800) 731-8300

However this wasn’t a very easy repair. I spent 4 days replacing this valve.

within 18 months both my King Air and my Essex had to have the water control valve replaced due to slow leaks into the fresh water tank. They just don't seem to last and they cost an arm and a leg like everything else in the couch.

Thanks for the information. Was wondering if there was a Name or # on the part. Usually Newmar charges 3x's what you can get it from the manufacturer.

Here’s their website: https://www.kantleak.com/

The valve is the “Panel Mount Instrumentation Ball Valve 5200 Series. I believe their part number is 4222 BV-P.

In searching the web I couldn’t find another source other than Newmar Parts.

Hope this helps!

Thanks again. That's an Anderson valve part. They have a 5 year warranty. I emailed the company and am waiting for a response.

Hi,
Im curious as to why it took you so long to change it. No doubt in a very awkward position. Took me most of a day to change my water pump in my fiver. Some of these components are a real pig to get at.

I saw that their “RV Valves” stated a 5 year Warranty so I have messaged them also. We will see how they respond??? Not very hopeful though.

Jeff, there were two factors that contributed to the 4 day ordeal. I had previously installed a Whole House RO system that had to be removed along with most every item on the Panel in order to access the valve. Add to that my need to “improve” anything I touch caused me to modify some of the plumbing. For your benefit here’s two photos of before and during the repair.
