keyless entry malfunction
I have a essex keyless entry and I replaced the keypad about six months ago. Now it is failing again. The lights only light up the keys from the 7/8 key and will beep only on this key. If I keep trying sometimes the 3/4 key lights and beeps but thats it. All of the wires are connected in side. Has anyone else had this happen?
Thanks

Hi augar boy,
This is a chronic problem with the key pad. There are Essex owners who will respond with the details of the fix. In the meantime search this forum on "keyless entry". There are many threads, but the 4 thread from the top, buy Iron Man, may provide the ultimate solution. To go directly to that thread, go to http://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/door...ade-78264.html .

Gary, I think he means he has an Essex keypad.
Sounds like you have another bad key pad. When you change it out make sure you seal it real good.

I just got off the phone with Essex and was told they had a redesign of the keypad in 2009. I have a AKE-5, a somewhat elongated curved form factor. I was told I could order from them or one of their distributors which may be cheaper and faster. The distributor he referred me to is Al Electrics Auto Accessories 888-838-0506 ask for Art, they are on the west coast.

Oh well, ready, fire, aim! Just goes to show what those of use with an entry level coach are missing.

Gary,
Your assumption is understandable, I had to read the post twice.

Talked with essex keyless today and they said they had problems with this keypad right off the assembly line. Mine is still under warranty (3 yrs) so I send them my old one and they replace it with the 1700 series for $50.00. I thought maybe since it was still in warranty they would replace at no charge with like kind, but they wouldn't.

Not sure this will help but anyhow welcome to the Newmar forum & irv2 augar boy.
Reminds me of the Actia dash display on Workhorse chassis pay for replacement and hope it fails during warranty period or shell out some more money seems like things just do not get made as good as years ago.

I talked to John in customer service and he told me the 1700 series had a design flaw which was corrected about 1 1/2 years ago. Problem was with the 1 and 9 pads dying as well as the 5. My 1 & 9 died and 5 is intermittent. I replaced the 1600 series 20 months ago with the 1700 series.
If I pull the unit and send to them they will replace at no charge...if I order a new one install and mail them the old one they will charge me full price on CC and once the old unit is returned credit my account for all but $49. They are currently out of stock, but I will pull the faiked unit and return and reinstall when they ship me the new improved unit.

We had 3 of the old keypads. Essex allowed us to upgrade to the 1700 for free. Sent them my old one and they shipped me the new one. The only problem had to make the hole for the keypad bigger, not a big deal they send paper template. Just match up the new wires color by color to the old wires. Like the new keypad better, the keys are bigger and they are flat.

Thanks, I started a new thread but I will give Newmar a call. I have a warrenty on the coach, but I don't want to drive all the way up there to get a $179 part fixed.

Just called Newmar and they want $550 plus shipping. You can buy it outright for $179 anywhere else. He said it was a lot cheaper if you could pick it up at the factory. I ain't nuts.
