Keyless Entry / Power Door Lock
Hello all -
I'm trying to learn more about how the power entry door lock works and if it is connected to the Keyless Entry system.
I have a 2004 Newmar Mountain Aire Diesel Pusher which was originally equipped with the Essex KE-1601 system.
The keyless entry didn't work when I purchased the coach (I purchased it used or "new to me") and the previous owner shared that it had never worked during their 8 years of ownership.
The owner did share that I should NOT push the button on the center console to lock the doors, saying that I could easily lock myself out and be unable to regain entry. So - I've not pushed said button!
I'm considering replacing the Keyless Entry with the KE-1700 system, which I understand requires no wiring changes but some shaping/filing with a Dremel too in order to fit in the same space. If I understand correctly, I also believe that the entire Keyless Entry system is contained as a part of the touchpad itself and is pretty much self-contained. This is true even though there is a re-programming panel at the elbow of the co-pilot seat up front, which I find a little bit strange and would like to verify.
Before I start pushing buttons and locking myself out, etc., I would appreciate any clarification of proper function of the 2 systems. The user manual that came with the rig doesn't speak in any depth, and the documentation that I received for the Keyless Entry is all about programming the system (which is non-functional) to change the codes, etc.
Can anyone explain to me if there is any interaction between the button on the console and the Keyless Entry? Anything else that I should know? I tried calling Newmar but they didn't have any information for me, either besides "Contact Essex" and Essex said they knew nothing about any interacting locking mechanism.
Any and all assist appreciated :-)
John
