KONI Shocks on Kountry Star

I have a 2000, 35ft. Kountry Star Diesel Pusher with air suspension.

Has anyone put KONI shocks of a coach with air suspension? If so, did it improve things.

I don't have any complaint about my coach ride with the original shocks, but I'd just like to hear if these shocks make any improvement.

Thanks for ant comments.

I'm not sure of the date range, but around the time my 2007 DSDP was built there were a lot of complaints about an extremely harsh ride and Spartan replaced the OEM Bilsteins with Konis and the ride improvement was drastic.

I'm sold on Konis.

38v Freightliner Chassis. You will not believe the difference in the ride and handling. I really do not understand why Koni was not original equipment on my coach.

I switched mine for Koni. I had no complaints on how it rode on the B's, but I hoped to reduce the float on running swells at high speed. The ride over rough areas was improved very noticably, even though I was happy with it before. The float, however was a little more again than the B's. All in all though, I'm very happy.

I changed my shocks to Koni's early last year. Have over 8,000 miles on them and I am quite pleased. Here is the thread about my experience when I first changed them out....

Put Koni's up front (middle setting) three years ago coupled with the Michelin 305/70's and our ride smoothed out tremendously.

I put Koni shocks on my Spartan chassis in November 2012. FSDs in the front, Adjustables (medium setting) on the rear. They replaced my old Bilsteins.

While I thought the ride was only marginally improved, the handling was significantly improved. Before the motorhome tended to roll side to side. This roll caused pulling from left to right which forced constant correction at the wheel. The Corning also greatly improved as the rolling in corners has all but been eliminated.

The only downside... Well my fuel economy went down because I'm now driving faster. It just feels that much safer.

Hi,
I changed to Koni shocks a couple of years ago. Some Spartan front axles take them without a problem and some need to cut the dust shield. Mine was the latter. I'm very happy with the Koni shock.

I suggest you check with Spartan ( I assume that is what you have) to see if Koni shocks will fit. I did not like the ride with my 2007 and took it to Spartan. They worked extensively on mine, adjusted and changed the ride height, changed the air bag pressure then took a teat drive. I guess they adjusted things about three times before they said they had it as good and possible.Told me that there were lots of things they could do including change shocks on the DSDP but that Newmat had gone cheap with the axel on my KSDP and the options were very limited. They improved mine a lot and I guess it is OK.

I have a 2008 Kountry Star and switched to Koni shocks. Huge improvement! If you have clearance problems in front, the Koni shocks for a Country Coach will fit.

If you have clearance problems with adjustable Koni shocks on the front as I did, use Koni #1641SP3. Get rid of those crappy $50 Bilsteins.
