Kwikee Steps 47 Series Step Motor Replacement

Folks would appreciate any insight on how to replace the Kwikee Step 47 serries Step Motor

My steps are "locked out" in the extended position and will not retract

I've purchased new controller, motor, and door magnetic switch

However, not sure how to access the step motor to replace it. It is covered with a metal plate (though it does have access holes for the 3 motor bolts and spacers.

Questions:

Trouble shooting has been inconclusive and also think the door magnetic switch may also be involved.

1. With the step extended and will not retract (either opening the door or via starting the motorhome).

2. All three fuses (one in the drivers compartment and one in the power cord bay are all "good". The relay fuse, also in the power compartment bay measures 12 volts and appears good.

3. I've had the steps come out "shake" coming out but were doing fine until the problem arose.

4. Above the driver side in the cabinet what position is the step switch supposed to be (on or off)? Speaking with Newmar rep they say it should be off during normal configuration. Regardless, it doesn't resolve the step coming in when in either position (currently), steps are extended and will not retract.

I have new controller, new motor, and will soon receive new door switch (magnetic switch).

Again, what is the best way to remove and replace the step motor and what procedure is recommended to complete this task?

Thank you all for your continued support

I believe the series 47 (Flip Front) step's are not on the Dutchstar and the motor is inside the frame , so it can't been seen from the bottom like the other step's........

Thanks to all

After much frustration and “hand wringing” I was able to complete repairs.

On my 47 series step, the door relay/magnet, which should have been in the “normally open” had failed. This placed it in a “closed” condition, making the door appear as closed.

Found out that several Newmar’s have had this happen where the door switch circuit will develop a faulty ground, causing this same condition.

I have yet to locate the actual ground for the door switch. I found the leg wire from the magnetic switch for ground but not the ground physical location.

Should anyone know where the ground for the door magnet switch is located, I would be very appreciative of its actual location.

Finally, if any one faces a similar situation or needs to switch out the controller or step motor give a shout. They are easily replaced and a rather simple job. Took about 30 minutes taking my time but an easy job. The best way is first build up air and get the RV at travel height. This gives you easy access to all parts and you can sit up to complete the replacement.

Again, thanks to those who responded.
