Leak in Black Tank Flush line

The first weekend we took out our 2016 Canyon Star, we had a large leak in the rear black tank flush line, which is routed through the bottom of the vanity in both bathrooms.

Well, Newmar sent me a replacement ant-siphon valve, (or check valve), for the black water flush line. The valve is easy to replace, as it is under the rear vanity, and also the half bath vanity. After replacing it my wife watched while I pressurized the line, and everything was dry. So it was the valve. Now I wonder if I can trust this valve in the future as well as the one in the half bath. Maybe if it seals the first time, it will always seal? More than likely, she will be monitoring both of them for a while when I pressurize the flush lines. Monday I am going to order another one just for a spare.
Unnoticed, this could have caused a lot of water damage to our new motor home. So, if you are flushing the black tank for the first time, watch out for any leaks into the motor home.

Hi rperrym,
Good choice to order a spare. The saying is if you got it you will not need it.

After doing some more research on this valve, I think I will buy two of the brass, or bronze versions. Once I typed in B&B model, the number 571 came up on google by itself, which is the notation on top of the plastic valve. Then, when I hit enter, a dozen entries came up on google about this valve. Many were from other motor home and fifth wheel owners of several brands, that have had this valve fail and had water damage. Some had used it many times before and had it fail after months or years of use. Wish there was another way to route it other than under the bath vanities. I also saw installation instructions on line, from the manufacturer, that stated, "The atmospheric vacuum breaker shall not be installed where the venting of water from the device during the normal functioning causes damage".

Be watchful.

After having two plastic valves fail resulting in water in the basement, I ordered this brass one from Amazon. It requires a couple of fittings to install it but is less than half of the price of the Plastic one. For the price, I'll give it a go. Can't be any worse than the OEM.

P/S, the most common cause of failure of these valves is due to improper winterizing resulting in the valve freezing. Since my coach is always parked inside my heated garage, freezing is not an issue.

Thanks for the link. I may try this as well as I don't trust either valve now. Don't really want to have my wife watch under both vanities every time I want to flush the black water tank. I may even eliminate it and install a check valve instead.

I can't understand why this valve is leaking after all these years. Annoying to say the least.

If the valve is under both sinks does that mean that the two sinks drain into the black water tank?

I think you may be confused with the vent check valve. The one refered to in this post is only on the fresh water line that supplies water to the black tank rinse.

My 2016 Canyon Star has a bath and a half. So two toilets.
Both have separate black tank flush valves and drains. Both vacuum breaker, check valves are under the vanities. The rear one in the full bath sprayed water on our first trip out with the motor home. 86 gallon black tank capacity, which is overkill, but we like having the extra 1/2 bath.

Got my new Anti Siphon Breaker from Amazon, purchased two 1/2" NPT close nipples and installed it in place of the POS Plastic valve that was giving me grief. I gotta say, looking at this Brass Valve it is twice the valve for a third of the price.
Fits in exactly the same spot with zero mods. I'm confident my problems are solved.
