Hi VACMAN,
The black tube is the vent. If one over fills the tank, the over flow will come out this tube. Me thinks you can use non-vented fuel caps. If the other solution does not work, try the non vented caps.

Gary I don't doubt what you are saying, but if this was the vent or overfow tube, why could I not get any air thru it even with the caps off ?

Hi VACMAN,
It's been a long time since I was tested on this stuff. All I know is if I over fill my fuel tank. The fuel will come out the tube you found. I have the same setup. You could not get any air because the "other" end of the tube was in fuel.

If I remember correctly (this tells you my memory is suspect) it has something to do with a siphoning effect. When fuel is siphoned off enough to be at the proper level, the draining stops.

I have thought the tube at the filler neck was to allow air to escape when filling the tank. That is its' only purpose.

When I got home today with a hammer and a small chisel I was able to move the thread sleeve down about 1/8". I will try this next time I go out to see if it makes the gasket tighter..VACMAN

Vacman, do your caps also have the large o-ring on them at the handle end? If so this should help, it did for mine. I think over tightening by the dealer, or they weren't set deep enough to start with was the cause on mine.

Tommy,, after your reply, as I stated I checked mine, and you can plainly see where the (thread ring) is pressed into the fill tube. And with a blunt chisel you can work around this insert, and can see it slide down..And yes I do have the rubber ring on my caps.. Thanks for posting your reply.. I think this will work..VACMAN

Thank you for all the information. This is just an outstanding forum. I have learned alot about many subjects. Using cruise control to control aux brake was great! As far as the leaking fuel caps I bought that Stant caps that GaryKD suggested and will try them next week. I love my new 08 Kountry Star and have only had a few minor problems in over 3000 miles. You gotta love that hill flattening 400HP 1200 ft #s of torque. Thanks again, Gary
