Liquid Roof?

Dropped my MH off at a place that has done a pretty good job at service and repair work for me. The difference this time was that I was not there as I have been in the past. I asked them to do an inspection of the roof just to be safe. I do not get on the roof as often as I would like.

They called and said it need a "new" coating, a "liquid roof" $1,700 worth of roof as it turns out. They did disclose that before. I was quite far away so I said go ahead.

But I started to think about this. My recollection of being on the roof does not sync with this new coating. Seemed to me to be just a metal roof with sealant around the necessary equipment.

Did I just get taken to the cleaners??

To top it off, I originally took it there do repair the steps. There is a recall of the Lippert steps that would have fixed it. They would not do it because "they can't make money off of it".

Time to find a new service place, but since I haven't yet paid for this new coating - should I ?????

What roof material do you have. I would guess it is either a britetech or fiberglass. Neither of which should need a liquid roof coating. The fact they told you you needed one raises serious concerns about their honesty. I had a britetech roof on my last coach that was 14 years old when I sold the coach and still was in great shape. The most important thing to maintain on the roof is the sealants that is used around roof openings. If they haven’t started the liquid roof application I would tell them to stop and then find a reputable Rv shop to inspect the roof. If they have already applied the coating you are on the hook to pay them since you approved the application.

Pretty sure I have a fiberglass roof. And I agree that only the penetrations should need attention. Not the whole roof. Very annoying to me to be taken advantage that way. YES I should have know better but sometimes you have to trust the people you develop professional relationships with.

Up to that point they had been pretty trustworthy, BUT I have always waited for the work to get done so I was there. In this case I had some business a few hundred miles away that I attend to to and was called when I was there.

I am thinking of telling them to go stuff it and refuse to pay. Have never contemplated this action my whole life. I think I may want to spend the 2 thousand dollars they are charging me on lawyers instead.

Am I off base here?
