Tom,

As a Vietnam Veteran, I love seeing your American Flags. I do think it best to have the union on the left. And, the more flags the better!!

My Marine best buddy turned 90 today and we had a Birthday Party for him and the flags on the coach were also a part of his Birthday decorations. He really like the flags and it was a special day for another American Marine hero. As always I have the upmost respect for our military and especially for retired Marine's.

Not to be the one to bust your bubble but IMHO one well placed flag would be nicer then 10 that look like [Mod Edit] but it’s your choice

With the way things are going in this country today I wish there were more people flying one or more flags and treating them with respect, and fewer burning and trampling them, fewer people kneeling when they should be standing or looking around and not placing their hand or hat over their heart. I'm proud to display flag 24x7 with a spot light on all night long. Sometimes it's the only light on in the area, and I enjoy seeing it every time I drive down road to our home.

Maybe it's my time in the service, my father's, or my son's that makes me feel that way. Doesn't matter, we just need more people who do! Nice Job Tom!

I have read this thread from the beginning and most who have commented on it have made comments appropriate to the flag. Your comment is good in that it expresses your opinion.
Here is my opinion, 1 or 10, the flag never looks like [Mod Edit].

I think it is great how Tom is displaying his flags. His heart is in the right place and he should not have to defend that.

I have a small American flag which is mounted on the back of my motorcycle. It certainly does not get taken down at night and has never been lighted. Should I be concerned about violating flag etiquette. I don't think so.

I think I have the right to display my flags however I wish (VN 71-72).

Like Tom, I was born on a Navy base (Guam). Dad served active for 30 years and was in WW11, Korea, and Vietnam. I did not serve.

I don’t label or rank my level of patriotism, nor anyone else’s. From Elementary School through High School, I was “that guy” that raised and lowered the colors on campus. It bothers me that flag etiquette is not really taught any more. But, it lifts my spirits each and every time I see the colors, no matter how displayed (unless intentionally disrespectfully).

Bravo to Tom for his celebration decorations for his friend, and thanks for sharing. To his friend, Happy Birthday Marine! Thank you (and all who served) for your (their) service!

It might just be the weather or phase of the moon, but in the past week it seems as though some folks on this abnormally civil forum have turned into cranky pants individuals. Tough time to be a moderator. Let’s all please just lighten up.

Travel safely

In most things there is usually a "right" way, several "wrong" ways and a whole lot of "acceptable" ways. It gets complicated when you take into account people's motivations for what they do the way they do it.
The US Flag Code spells out the right way to show respect for the national symbol of our great nation.
http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html
OTOH, the SCOTUS has ruled that anyone has the "right" to do whatever they want to do to our flag including burning it. When that happens we will all no doubt get to hear from the "cranky pants."
Tom, the OP, is doing the right thing. His heart is certainly in the right place. He has a right to do it anyway he wants no matter who disagrees with him.
I just want everyone to know that there are prescribed procedures established, published and codified in Title 4 of the US Code for how to display the flag in a respectful manner. IOW, the "right" way.
Regarding my previous post referencing the dangers of hypernationalism. I love history. I try to learn from history. If anyone has studied the rise of Fascism in Italy and of National Socialism (Nazism) in Germany they can see the paths taken first by Mussolini and later by Hitler to appeal to the citizens who were feeling disenfranchised. They implemented policies that blamed other people for their problems and encouraged hypernationalism, exclusion and isolationism from the world at large but engaging in expansionism (lebensraum) in Europe.
We all know how that turned out. What we need to know and learn from is how it came about and make sure it doesn't happen here.
Tom, you're off the hook. I admit I am concerned but certainly not about you.

It really bothers me when people try to compare the greatest nation on the face of the planet to what went on in Nazi Germany. Sure, we have our issues but we are more a force for good than has ever existed. We really have something to be proud of. I say fly those flags and respect the people that have fought and died for the way of life, we often take for granted.

Bob, I wasn’t going to reply to your comment because of the possibility of going back and forth and the last thing I want believe me, anyway you know how it is. I totally understand how you feel and that’s great, as I served 25 years in the Air Force, I served along the side of the Navy, Marines and the Army and I’m here to tell you we never displayed more then ONE US Flag, but the one displayed was done with upmost respect and proper flag ETIQUETTE ( you can googled ) and if one wants to display more then one Flag it should follow the same rules as NOT to disrespect the FLAG however unintentionally to do ignorance or otherwise.

OP - Great Job, don't care how many flags he displays, yes, USN, USA, USAF, USCG, POW/MIA too. Yes, on flag etiquette. Note: CEO of Camping World in big Fight with city over flag size, last I read, city backed down. Thanks to all who served.

Perhaps a USMC flag too. Must have slipped your mind.
As the proud SIL of a retired MGYSGT who was wounded on Guadalcanal and in Korea and the proud Dad of a Marine who survived 2 tours in Iraq I gotta throw that in.[emoji847]
