Looking At 05 Dutch Star

Hello all... been a while since I have posted here. I am looking at a 2005 Dutch Star 4023. The coach has a little over 50,000 miles on it. Sounds like it has new tires. Just looking for advice on things I should be looking for beyond the obvious. I know this chassis had issues with ball joints. Anything else mechanical or otherwise I should be looking and asking about? Thanks in advance for any help.

Get right up and under it and look over the radiator really good, touch it with your finger's and make sure the fin's have not started to deteriorate. Look over the air bag's for cracking.......
Fluid sample's from the engine, transmission, and also the genset should be tested......it would be in your best interest.

In the " Files " drop box ( blue bar across the page , under the Google search box) there is a downloadable " Buyers Check List " to have with you as you check things out.

And, even following that, be prepared for unexpected repairs! Been there and cost me a bunch!

Look for paint checking, especially in the dark paint. It will get worse and repainting does not fix the issue in most cases. The coaches from around 2000 to 2008 have this issue. It looks like little checks under the clear coat. Search for paint checking in the forum and there is a lot of information and pictures.

I went and looked at the coach. Looks to be in ok shape, needs a good detailing. There is some checking in the dark color stripes. As you say, it seems they all have it to a degree. Didn't really get into the fine details of inspection yet.

Thanks for the advice.

Don't loose site that you are looking at a 12 year old coach. I would not be real concerned with paint checking as much as the mechanical condition. Mine is checked on the passenger side but from 20 feet, you won't know the difference. Look at the tire date codes, rad condition, roof condition, brakes, fluid samples, batteries etc. These are the big bucks items that could bite you. The paint, you can live with. IMHO
