Low Battery???
Have noticed this several times in the last few months. After being plugged into 50 amp for several days and getting ready to move. I get a low battery warning on the freightliner dash when I first turn on the key. I have checked the magnum inverter and the charger is on. The MH always seams to start ok. I don't understand what is going on or what I might look for. I am thinking that this is about the chassis batteries. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Bill

You can ignore it. It's a large amp draw when you go to start which triggers that warning.

I believe it happens until your engine turns your alternator fast enough to generate normal output.

Agree with Neal. When we were at Freightliner in Gaffney in October they told me the same thing....”large draw on start sequence, ignore the warning”

Yes, the large draw is from the intake heating elements when you turn the the key on and see the WAIT light signaling the heaters are active.
As soon as the engine starts and the alternator begins to charge, the voltage comes back, light goes out.
You should also get into the habit of letting the WAIT light go out before attempting to start so as not to confuse the ECM. Even on a warm start......

Quite normal for the reasons already stated...plus the fact that the DEF heater comes on too, and it draws a lot of amperage. As the DEF heats up and the other things normalize, the warning disappears. On my coach, it takes 3-5 minutes from a cold start. On a warm summer day, I don't see it at all.

Two additional points. In cold weather and connected to shore power turn on the engine heater several hours before starting and the wait lamp will go out quicker and put less drain on chassis batteries. Also, HWH hydraulics for jacks and some slides run off chassis batteries and have a low voltage cutoff. So your hydraulics may not work for short time after starting engine until alternator brings the voltage back up. This cause me consternation until I learned HWH system tied to chassis batteries (at least in my Tiffin Phaeton).
