Lowering Driver Seat
Can anyone recommend a company around the Newmar factory that can do metal work on my seat mount. The driver's seat sits too high for me and I want to cut a couple inches off the pedestal and re weld. Or, if they make different heights of pedestals I would swap out a lower height one . I will also call the factory Monday. Just wondering if anyone else has done this. It is not something I want to tackle myself.

If you have the power seat you already have the lowest pedestal. Neither Newmar nor any other company I contacted would make changes to the driver or passenger seat mounting as it affects the DOT certification and creates a liability issue.

This has been discussed before with this solution.

12 years ago a "metal fabricator" in Wisconsin shortened my driver seat pedestal by 1.5".... so my "vertically challenged" wife can more comfortably drive our coach.
If you Google "metal fabricating/welding near xxxx"....(the city/town near where you need/want the work done)... you will find someone who can do the job.

I had a lower pedestals placed in my 95 Winnebago so they are available. My wife had a hard time reaching the gas pedal.
The dealer got me the part and installed.

Pull it out and take it to a local welder/fabricator. Don't tell them what it's and have them take a couple of inches out of it. I'm 6'2", but have short legs and sit like I'm 6'5". I've lowered a couple of seats in various cars I've owned by cutting out an inch or two.

Don,
Were you able to take the seat off by yourself? Taking it off the pedestal seems straight forward but the bolts that attach the pedestal to the floor, do you have to be under the coach to remove?

Lowering the pedestal may work on some coaches but my Ventana has the built in foot rest which already touches the floor when the seat is in its lowest position. Moving or extending the pedals seems the only option in this case.

My seat pedestal is bolted through the floor...(to remove the 4 bolts I had to get under the coach and remove the nuts while someone held a wrench on the top).

IMO any welder/fabricator worth his salt will know a "seat pedestal" when he sees one.

It could be simply an extension for any type of equipment. An industrial turn table.
"wracinti".....I didn't take mine out in the Dutch Star because they fit fine for me. I haven't looked to see how the Dutch Star is installed. In a prior coach they were welded and remained in place when I did some carpeting.

On my Ventana there is drop between the tile floor and where the gas pedal is installed. I filled in this space with plywood so the floor is level up to the pedal and this has made a difference.

Found someone locally that will cut down the pedestal and reweld it level so I am gonna give it go. I can reach all the bolts underneath in the wheelwell easily except one. Thanks for all the response guys. Should be pretty straight forward. Oops, famous last words!
