MADP Silverleaf Climate Screen Question

I'm trying to use the heating/cooling features of my 2016 Mountain Aire through the Silverleaf Climate screen. I can set temperatures for heating and cooling separately...usually leaving a few degrees between them so a fan isn't running constantly. Whichever setting I change turns it on (either heat or cool). I want to have both settings active and managed by the system.

According to the documentation, I should be able to press the Auto button and it should activate both systems at their respective settings, but when I do this it changes both Heat and Cool to the same temperature. Pressing Auto again returns to the separate settings.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? The first picture attached shows the documentation...which is what I want it to do. The second picture is of my system, which is not doing what I want it to do.

Any help from Silverleaf experts out there would be appreciated!

There is a training school link in this link that may give you a answer also.

Thanks, 007. All the material referenced there describes how it is *supposed* to work, but not how it *does* work.

Hoping to get some input here, then on to Newmar and Silverleaf I guess.

Thanks!!

I have the same issue on my 2017 MADP, called silverleaf and they told me it is the way newmar programs it and there was nothing that could be done. Let me know if the answer has changed, it would be nice to use the system as it was designed to work.

Our 2017 LADP is acting the same as your screen. I say acting because I agree with you, it does not work the way it should because of a setting within Silverleaf. In the training manual page 33, there is a reference to Silverleaf operating the way we want it to operate.
I have a warranty visit in 3 weeks and this is on my list of things to get looked at by Newmar. The other thing is when I go to electrical history, I have a blank screen. Older and newer models have the information, not '17 according to Newmar. We shall see.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in this! The system should work the way the manual describes.

You must have been in my coach this morning! I tried that and all the units went crazy. Some air, some heat, something always running.

Surely Newmar doesn't think it should work that way.

Based on my discussions with several folks at SilverLeaf Electronics, I sense the relationship between SilverLeaf and Newmar could be better.

Best I can tell SilverLeaf provides hardware and software coding, while Newmar decides on features and approves coding changes.

When I have enquired as to why the software does something wrong the reply is often that Newmar has not asked for a change. Apparently SilverLeaf cannot change their software/firmware for Newmar applications without a request and approval by Newmar. This appears to even apply to known bugs in the code.

Another example of why I have problems with all the electronic wizardry that is being incorporated into new coaches. Seems like all I am seeing in the forum posts these days are issues with Silverleaf, Oasis, macerator toilets and Sanicon, etc., etc. Our first 40 years of RVing were very uncomplicated; I'm starting to be concerned that the new MADP 4047 is going to be a technological nightmare. I sure hope not.

To those of you who are following this, I need another bit of help. I'm trying to make the climate system function as easily as possible, within the limits of the above-mentioned situation. This is complicated because we are in a location where the weather is much colder than we expected.

My goal is to get the system to work in a way where I can go to the climate screen, touch heat, set the desired temperature, and have it go there. Sounds simple but things don't work the way I expect with this system .

Would you please go in to the Features/Climate Configuration screen and tell me what setting you have for "Secondary Heat Management"? There are several possible settings, but I can't find any documentation on what they mean.

While I prefer that the heat all come from the Oasis system and not the roof systems, I'll settle for anything that works reliably.

I appreciate any input you may have!!

My notes show the following (can't guarantee it is the same for your coach, but probably is):

"Automatic" - computer decides which heat source is used based on the outside air temperature

"Primary Only" - heat pumps only

"Secondary Only" - Oasis only

"Both On" - both sources are used until the heat pumps lock out due to outside air temperature

Definitely Newgle is my friend, and I've been through all the docs there. While experimenting this morning, I had a bit of an "aha moment". I had "all zones" set to the desired temperature and the coach heated nicely on Oasis. Awhile later I notice that the temperature seemed to keep climbing although the coach was toasty. All the fans except the one in the living room seemed to be off but the burner and fan up front would cycle on and off frequently. It was getting hot in here!

I looked at the Oasis distribution module and it said zone 1 was calling for heat, but none of the others were. That seemed very strange so I went through the individual climate settings. The Living Room screen showed this...note that it seems the thermostat is reporting the current temperature as absolute zero: -459 degrees.

I then looked at the Silverleaf System Diagnostics and I find four occurrences of this: AUX HEAT 1 TEMPERATURE SENSOR - LOW. With no time to troubleshoot further, I touched the Heat button to turn it off in the Living Room zone and the fan and burner immediately stopped.

I guess my next step is a Newmar/Dealer call to find out what to do about the thermostat error. Meanwhile, I think I can get by with just setting the other zones to the desired temperature and leaving the Living Room off.
