Believe it is the same type used on the Canyon Star. If so they are adjustable. Don't get any more cuts or bruises! Typically the latching post needs a slight adjustment. However, doing so could cause other latching issues so be careful and, based on our experiences with it, just know that any adjustment should be very very slight. It may take a few times to get it right.
Our latch post has a hex head on it so all you need to do with this type is put a wrench or socket on it and loosen it. It is very tight and somewhat hard to loosen. But it needs to be tight once it is in the proper spot. Once it is loose it can slide around and be reset in the desired location. One suggestion would be to use a pencil and trace a line around wherever it currently is before you loosen it because once you loosen it it will slide around in its slot quite easily.
If you're not comfortable doing this or if your door setup is different your dealer should be able to do it for you quite easily.
Good luck and enjoy your Bay Star. Safe travels.
