Maiden Voyage- Forecast Freezing Temps

Our maiden voyage is planned for Sunday and now the forecast calls for a couple nights where the temps will be below freezing for a few hours. We've already dewinterized because temps weren't supposed to get that low. Obviously we'll be running the furnace and we have tank heaters. Will that be enough or should we do more?

A few hours in temps just below freezing won't be a big problem. Just plan to run your LP furnace. If your water bay has a forced air fan to divert some of the LP furnace heat, make sure it is turned on. Your big water tank will not have any problems but if it makes you feel safer, go ahead and run the heating pads.

You could also run a small space heater or a trouble light in the water bay. Just make sure you don't over heat/melt any PVC. Also, disconnect your water hose from the water outlet and drain the hose.

You should easily handle down to 25* for a few hours if you do these things.

If you will only be exposed to freezing temps for a couple of hours you will be fine. The furnace should heat the basement compartments and the tank heaters will do their job.

On thing you may consider investing in is a remote temperature monitor to see what is happening in your wet bay and basement compartments. I have one and have the display in the living quarters where I can see what is happening.

A couple of hours each night will not pose any problem especially since you will be running the furnace and have tank heaters.

Enjoy your trip.

I just returned from "Camp Spartan" in Charlotte MI where two nights got below freezing for a few hours. No problem whatsoever.

As others have said, a couple of hours at sub-freezing temperatures won't be an issue. Having said that, the BayStar does not have insulated basement compartments nor the forced air fan that most Dutch Star and above have. The tank heaters are nice but don't protect the plumbing in the compartments. I would definitely put an incandescent trouble light like this one in each compartment, it's cheap insurance.
