Making lemonade from a lemon

When our front motorized shade stopped working, presumably because of the motor (DH checked everything else), it at least failed while still in the raised position. Because we were due to leave for a trip soon, there wasn't time to take the whole assembly down and replace the motor. But we were still going to need privacy while traveling. And even though some on the forum have said you could manually turn the shade, ours would not.

So I applied the loop (fuzzy) side of black adhesive Velcro to the bottom of the black shade where the wooden bar inserts to give it stability. Then I took fabric that I liked and sewed it to blackout lining to create a soft shade. I sewed the hook side of non-adhesive Velcro (do not try to sew adhesive Velcro, it will only ruin your needle!) across the top of the soft shade and attached it to the bottom of the black shade. It worked perfectly and is much prettier than the black shade. If I knew how to do it, I would take a picture and upload it.

Still need to fix the motorized shade, but it is no longer a crisis issue.

Did you check the switches for a problem? I replaced 2 switches when shade behavior became erratic and then problem went away.
